Have any of you good folk travelled to Romania and if so have you got any advice?  Just something I'm toying with at the moment.

We passed through Romania in 2008 on the way to Greece.  Much will have changed since then, of course.  We did it with a certain amount of trepidation, but were very pleasantly surprised.  We stayed at two  Dutch owned sites which had standards pretty close
    to the rest of Europe.

The first was Camping Eldorado at Cluj Napoca.  A pleasant site, nothing special but comfortable.  The second was the wonderrfully named  Vampire Camping at Bran, just south of Brasov.  Easy trip into Brasov which is a lovely city, and of course Bran is
the site of what is alleged to be one of Deracula's castles, a splendid edifice which has become a bit of a tourist trap.  The third site we stayed on was hardly a site at all, it was a holiday camp cum student residence on the edge of Bucharest where the
visiting caravans parked round the central tarmac circle.  we did not feel at all comfortable.

Overall Romania was a very prretty country, but there was signs of great povery.  POretty villages were a bit run down and every house had a table outside selling the odd tomato or bunch of greens.  At the edge of most villages would be a huge flashy house
owned by the local Roma chief.

Roads were rough in parts, although when we were there there was a lot of rebuilding work.  The country seemed to be over-run with stray dogs, which swarmed to the car if you stop in a layby.

Having said all that we would be perfectly happy to go again.
