Thinking of southern Ireland

Hi all we have started to conceder next year’s summer holiday and we have both mentions Ireland in our musings (unusual for us to agree on an idea so soon LOL).

We see a lot of thoughts and ideas here on Europe but not so many for southern Ireland (admittedly we have only just started to look though)

Any thoughts or ideas would be appreciated are the roads OK (7M motor home) found 3 sites on the network about right for a 10 night stay with a couple of days around the ferry terminal on way out and back.

Just starting a bit or research so thought I would start here.

    There are plenty of excellent privately owned sites in Ireland. We did our initial search on Google but once there found a couple of Site handbooks which were free. We travelled the 'Atlantic Way running along the west coast into N.I. Excellent scenery. The roads can be very uneven and as we were towing a twin axle we had to sometimes drop our speed to 40 mph. Our combined car/caravan length is 42 ft (13M) and we found no problems regarding road width of site access. There were plenty of motorhomes. Roads are quieter than UK. We did use the motorways travelling from Belfast towards Dublin which are excellent. There is a small toll charge near Dublin of 8 euros, payable at shops and garages carrying the logo sign. I would thoroughly recommend Ireland.

    My advice would be to stop thinking about it.  Get started with the planning.  If the weather is good (always the big if) then Ireland is a wondrful country, scenic, friendly and clean.  The only drawback is the crossing costs, which by the standards of
    other European crossings (e.g. channel) are very expensive.

    We loved Ireland when we visited in our motorhome.   Particularly Galway and Connemara.  Only one hesitation.   We sometimes found it difficult to find parking places on our travels in our motorhome.  The Irish tend to put height barriers of around 2m on
    all their town car parks which means that only on-street parking is feasible in a MH.  We found, disappointingly, that we could not find anywhere to park in lovely towns we wanted to explore so had to just move on.
