Are there any details of the 'early booking offer'? There doesn't seem to be any text on the Ferries Booking page which would attract people to have a look at this crossing.
Thank you Val, the offers are listed here.

Some time ago I was looking at prices for 2017 and was told,on webchat, that only BF routes had been discounted.
Seeing this I have just checked again for a Harwich-Hook crossing in May/June 2017 that, back in early September, was coming out at £284, with7 camping chques, compared to £155 in 2014.
The price is now £113.60!!

.......and £113 is whether you buy camping cheques or not. So it works out cheaper than Dover to Calais and a lot cheaper than the Hull route

If you can get it at that rate, and want to travel on that crossing, then I would book immediately! It may be that it's a mistake. Some years ago I booked a return crossing with the Caravan Club, and later learned that due to a 'programming fault' the
total cost was, in fact, only for a single journey and therefore half the cost it should have been. As it wasn't my fault, and I'd booked in good faith, the booking was allowed to stand, and I just paid the half rate. However, those that had booked later,
once I'd mentioned it on forums, weren't so lucky in most cases - though one forum member that I know also succeeded in getting the half fare!0 -

Just checked and indeed this is the price being offered. If the booking is accepted and the credit card debited then that's the price you pay. Its not an "invitation to treat" as it would be in a shop as a consideration would have been passed and a binding contract made.
It's very tempting but the sailing times are awkward for us. Not good times to be spat out in Holland either. The Hull crossing with all meals and a cabin upgrade for us is about £500.
Will wait until Mrs Fysh gets back from work before booking anything.

We used to use this route as its very convenient for us but the last few times I've enquired they have discounted the m/h but charged full fare for the small trailer £170 each way so we have stopped using it for that reason, caravans go free right up to
8m but a 3m trailer has to pay sorry I will use BF who only charge £35 for it and it places me further down France.0 -
Depends where you are going TG.
We are looking at Switzerland / Italian lakes again this time.
Nothing set in stone though and France still has a big pull for both of us.
I am still furious with BF deckhands for leaving us against 2 bulkheads and totally unable to exit the car. We eventually got out through the sunroof. Yes we did make an official complaint to the purser not that he was interested.

You put the car in a position where you couldn't get out...or they moved the bulkheads in alongside you?

Right of course Fysherman, when we lived in Germany we always used this route and when visiting our son who lived the up until 2 years ago. When going with a caravan and using the sat/sunday night crossing the discounts are well worth it, the last time
we did that we were nearer the £300 return mark, if you add cc's even bigger discounts can be had.My argument is that ferries work on height and lengths, our combined length is under 10m's while the t/a caravans can come in at 14m's combined length, the height of our m/h is the same as caravans so no differance there. I know its P&O that sets the rates
but I feel the CC could sort this issue, as I said we used to get the trailer free, the last time this happened was April 2015 by the time I did my booking for September 2015 the trailer was charged.0 -
Ah, it's about ferries. I wondered from the OP if Hull was up for sale.

It's all that culture that you'll get for free.

Neither.
Bulkheads are fixed on Ferries these days and I was following the deckhands marshalling instructions who could see better than I could from inside the car.
I take it you just park wherever you fancy

Yes, the Harwich/Hook deal is really good! £112.60 for car and caravan on the dates I experimented with - and that's RETURN!
Mrs Fysh wants her cabin and evening meal.
Must admit despite the awkward sailing times I was very tempted . I was paying those prices 15 years ago!

Hi TG, Can't say what price is for MH and trailer but in 2014 we,with caravan, were less than MH friends but next year they are £109.40 and we are £112.60.
Nice to see that others are picking up n this great value route and, whilst we usually go BF, we have friends in Holland and heading probably for Lake Como so suits us.

Hi allanandjean, the Hull route was ok up until middle of 2015 then trailers were charged full price, up until then they went free same as caravans, even direct through P&O. I did try at the time speaking to the agents to find out why this had changed however
I didn't get anywhere with it. Since then we have not used the route. It may well be a case of cutting off my nose etc. but I hate being treated unfairly. The Hull route is a good one if it falls within the area you want to visit. If we were going to Germany,
Austria, Italy I would look at the Newcastle route with DFDS. Alas we are not sure what we will be doing next year so no plans on booking ferry yet. Lake Como is lovely have a good trip.0 -
Ferry now booked, out late April and back mid June, £112.60 as Val said.
Can anyone who has used the day crossing before suggest suitable sites.......one in UK where we can leave early morning on the way out, and arrive late evening on the way back, and one in Holland where we can arrive in the evening?

We haven't booled a cabin, I expect we will survive!
Will probably take a packed lunch plus nibbles and soft drinks, might buy dinner though.

Write your comments here...Brook Croft cl caters for the ferry arrivals/departures only about 20 mins from harwich. I believe delft has a good site 20 mins from the hook.

We used this route in 2015 and were looking at Colchester Holiday Park just of the A12 and 25 miles from the ferry. In the end we stayed overnight in the departure area, after confirming that this was OK, as our plans meant we would not be able to arrive
in time to access a site.It was just as well because the A12 was shut from the M25 for resurfacing with a very slow diversion meaning that we arrived at Harwich after midnight.
The area was quiet till app 0600 so got some sleep but once on board got a day cabin, which was quite reasonable, and a couple of hours sleep made the 7 hours plus journey better.
In regard to food we had a breakfast onlybut on the return ate in the restaurant,I think it s called Metoplitan or similar, and we all agreed that, while not cheap, it was one of the best meals in our 4 weeks away.

We had a chat last night and it is looking like we will use Hull despite the substantial extra cost.
Mrs Fysh still works and by the time she gets home a 18.30 leave time is the best we can make. Because of the distance to Harwich, the choice is either a CL the night before or a drive through the night. Been there done that so it would be a night before somewhere handy. Thats a day lost, another day/night lost with a 7 hour ferry () and an overnight on a site near the other side.
If that's repeated coming back (in reverse obviously) we are losing potentialy 4 days from a 2 or 3 week holiday.
That's just too much. From Hull we have an short 80 mile drive on the Saturday, comfortable overnight cabin, kip and Breakfast before launching outselves at the continent at a civilised 08.30 ish on the other side.
If we could just go when we wanted to and not fit in with a holiday regime set by an employer we would (without doubt) give Harwich a try.
Good luck and happy holiday to everyone however you get "over there".

Just called Camping Cheques, as we travel with friends who are not CC members, to get a price for Harwich and Portsmouth. As for CC bookings you have to buy 5 cheques but the prices are identical with only a £3 difference on the most expensive package. We always used to check Club prices against booking direct with Camping Cheques but in 2015, after calls were redirected to
the Club, was always told that it would be cheaper for me to book via the Club as I was a member.Whilst I get many things from being a Club member I know that my friend will ask me why,if prices are the same, should he consider joining-as he has in the past and I have again suggested- as the travel service is the only thing he would use.

Would it be less if you were in a forward gear?!!!!0 -
