Santander to Burgos

We are intending to head South from Santander to Burgos next year. However having recently experienced the road from Potes to Santander with its overhanging cliffs and mad coach drivers I am a little cautious. Does anyone have experience of the N623. Is
it suitable for a car and caravan or should we take the A67 and A231.  Thanks for any help.

    Hi Seafordblue,

I've not experienced it personally so hopefully a Member will respond but in the meantime you can plan routes for motorhomes or towing on www.viamichelin.co.uk. In the options list select you have a caravan and it will avoid unsuitable roads.

Some are happy on the N roads, but we always take the Autovia/pista as they are much quieter and more relaxing to drive on.  They usually have plenty of rest areas, unlike the UK where you're herded into dismal service areas.  In fact there is very little traffic on them compared to UK motorways, although they do get busier near the bigger cities.  We have a smallish motorhome and I would certainly do the same with caravan.

If you go on Google maps you can get a Street View of any roads you might drive on and make up your mind.
