Doing it independently v Caravan Club

We have returned from our 1st trip to France all booked by CC. We had a brilliant time and already looking forward to our next trip. My question is whether it would be cheaper to book ferry and campsites separately and independently or do the CC offer a
competitive rate?

Ferries can be cheaper booked through the club but campsites are a different matter.

It depends where you want to go and when. Outside the main holiday season and in the most popular areas, most simply do not book campsites in advance. It's part of the attaction of touring abroad not needing to do so.

If you prefer to have a site particular booked then check the prices direct with the site (Google Translate is a great tool) and compare to what the club are asking (assuming it's in the booking system)

An added complication coming up is the fall in the value of the pound vs the Euro. I don't know if the club hedge currency by buying in advance in order to even out fluctuations or they just have a more informal agreement with the sites but there is the possibillity that prices booked by the club might become more competitive until things settle down so it's worth checking this out.

    Hope this helps.

    Good morning Carl321,

We are delighted that your 1st trip was such a success.

We have some ferry offers bookable now for 2017, the earlier you book the cheaper the fares will be.

Our Travel Team would be happy to run through some quotes with you, please feel free to give them a call on 01342 316101, they will be open until 17.30 today, you can then compare our offers against the ferry direct discounts.

    Kind regards.

    Kimberley.

    Hi Carl321,

Thank you for getting in touch today.

Cherbourg offers with Brittany Ferries are available now, our Travel Team would be delighted to assist with your holiday dates, their telephone number is 01342 316101, I would suggest getting a Poole to Cherbourg quote too, this may be cheaper .

    Kind regards.

    Kimberley .

Hi Carl,There are a number of ways that you can make savings however, so far as I can see, none match the savings possible with an ITX fare, combining sites and/or Camping Cheques and ferry crossing, with the Club. We go for cheques but as you have used  the
club for sites that may suit you better. We also have an ACSI card as well and whilst it offers discount on sites you  get no discount on your ferry.

The discount varies according to the route day/time etc and the better deals are usually on the longer routes. I priced a Brittany Ferries return in May/June 2017 last week- booked direct with BF £518 but as part of an ITX with Camping Cheques £188.65.

If using BF does not suit then it may be of little use but if it does then it's a massive saving. In 2015 we made a good

saving on Stenna from Harwich and are waiting to see the discounted prices for 2017 before booking

If you're planning to stay on a popular campsite in peak season, it's a good idea to book in advance. Many French sites charge an admin fee for this, as well as requesting a deposit.

If you book through the Club, neither of these applies. It all depends on when and where.....
