Summer in Spain with kids

we have just returned from 28 days in Spain with our 3 kids and thought we'd share a few bits. Portsmouth to Santander was a great crossing and lots to do on the ferry. We drove straight form the ferry down to Zaragoza to a municipal site for 1 night and
got there at 11:30pm with no problems for access. Be careful on the autopista as we got charged as a truck and and not a car / caravan. This cost us an extra 25 euros in tolls. Then moved to La Fresnada run by a Dutch couple for 5 nights and it was a lovely
site with lots to do and the pitches were big and easy access. We then drove down to Camping la Gavina which is halfway between Barcalona and Tarragona, big commercial site but it was directly on the beach and had a great pool, be careful to get a good pitch
as we were originally put next next to the bins on a 45degree slope, luckily wifey is fluent in Spanish and sorted it out.  Then up to Navarra for 5 nights on a site called camping Bardenas which was a great base to explore the area and the bodegas. We finished
off with 4 nights at cabo mayor in Santander which was a great site as a base for a beautiful city. Pitches were tight but we are nearly 8m long so the motor mover came into its own.. It was a great trip and we did 2000 miles in total, fuel was cheap, tolls
were fair and Spain was amazing for our family

Pleased you had a fantastic holiday.  I'm sure that 'wifey' having fluent Spanish was a significant factor!

Well, yes, hopefully Tessa is happy to be referred to as "wifey"

I wouldn't, but each to their own.

Sounds a wonderful trip, glad you all had a great time.

Glad you all enjoyed your holiday, I spend approx 6 months a year in Spain but I find July / August too hot, too busy, the Spanish descend to the coast and just park up, so no where  to park! restaurants full,  standards tend to drop because they can fill
their boots etc On the other hand my son takes full, advantage with his family to use the facilities lol, My friends tell me it's been very hot this year. You certainly travelled round  a bit, with fuel and cost of living cheaper then here it's a good holiday
ing area. Enjoy your towing hopefully you will get some more sun back home in the next couple of weeks.

Sounds great! We're planning our first trip to Spain for 2017 and wondering about needing the stopover in Zaragoza or pushing on to Tarragona in one go.

Can you recall what time your ferry arrived into Santander, and at what time did you eventually get on the road?

Ferries from UK arrive in Santander at 12.15, 1415, 1730, and 1815 - different times on different days on different ships with different departures from England.  The full Brittany Ferries timetable is on line to see.  Allow half an hour to get vehicles off loaded.

Customs and passport  inspection times will depend on how the Spanish react in the future to UK controlling its borders following Brexit. They may decide to control theirs in response.

    Thanks eurotraveller, greatly appreciated.

If we were looking at the 1415 arrival would it be realistic in your experience to expect to be on the road by say 1530 (30mins for off loading + 45mins contingency for passport contol)?

We got off the ferry and cleared the docks by 6pm then stuck the foot down to Zaragoza arriving at 11:30pm with. Quick stop for fuel and a driver switch. well worth it as then you may have a few hours to Tarragona the next day which is a beautiful place
    and well worth a trip.
