Camping Camino de Santiago, Burgos, Spain
This site is 2767 in the ACSI book, it does not appear in the CC guide to Spain. We are meandering down France and Spain to Conil. We didn't like the Burgos site where we stayed about 3 years ago, we thought it was rather tatty and run down. We also got
the reception lady's life story thrown in which was unusual.
Has anybody stayed at this site which looks good on the ACSI cd?

Sorry not stayed at that site, we stayed at the one in Burgos 2765 Fuentes Blancas when we were there in June this year, it was fairly busy but the site was fine as was the facilities. Not sure if that was the one you stayed at 3 years ago.

Stayed at Fuentes Blancas three weeks ago for two nights and they certainly have improves the facilities in the last few years. It was 28euros a night in August and Burgos is a beautiful city well worth a visit. Winter they do close some of the facilities
like most sites in Spain.0 -
I think you are referring to the site at Castrojerez. We stayed there in June 2009, so info might be a bit out of date. A very nice but basic site with pitches separated from each other by hedges. A nice bar & snack bar, and a short walk into the village
with lots of old Camino style houses, lodgings and some nice restaurants. I have to say we did not see the site at its best, after a period of heavy rain it was very very muddy. Mud stains up to wheel hubs of carand van when we leftThis is my wife's review from the UK Campsites webpage
"The Route of St James, which we'd followed from St Jean Pied de Port in France (as tourists rather than pilgrims) runs right through this medieval village, hence the name of the campsite. There are a couple of pilgrim hostels in town but quite a few travellers
doing the long-distance walk choose to stay at the campsite. In the bar there are numerous photos of pilgrims, some on foot or bicycle, some with a donkey, and some even on motorbikes. It's a small and friendly site, a little bit run-down, but in good weather
a peaceful, leafy refuge. Unfortunately it was pouring with rain when we arrived and the site was very muddy indeed - my wellies came in useful. But when the sun came out it was very pretty, overlooked by a ruined castle on a hill. The shower block is ok but
in need of a bit of attention as 2 out of the 3 showers in the ladies didn't work very well. However it was clean, the loos had both seats and toilet paper, the washing-up and laundry room was large and under cover (but only one sink had a hot tap) and there
was an indoor drying area for hikers' clothes, with a pool table. Reception, bar, restaurant and shop are all in one room and the friendly owner speaks English. We spent a day in Burgos (40 minutes' drive) which is a very attractive and historic city, the
home of El Cid. This site isn't for you if you want entertainment and top-class facilities but it was relaxed and friendly and we would have stayed longer had the weather been better!"0 -
Thanks for all your replies. We are caravanners so of course we changed our mind and route so I never went near Burgos! We have been away from reliable WiFi so have not had a chance to view or reply.
We ended up in Asturias near Gijon on the coast for a bit of normal weather, only 25 - 30 C! We are now overnighting at Camping Olimpic at Salamanca on the way south to Conil via Monfrague and Caceres and maybe El Rocio. It's approaching 40C here but supposed
to reduce to mid 20s tomorrow. Thanks for your good wishes David. The same to you and your lovely wife from us both. Where are you now?

David sorry for the delay in replying.Croatia sounds good you certainly get around.
We have settled into Conil for at least a month. We arrived on 11th which was last day of Spanish infants hols so most people emptied out on Sunday. There was a huge fair locally which went on till 4 o'clock in the morning with a 15 minute firework display
at 2 am. They certainly know how to enjoy themselves the Spanish! Our heads were poudinmg the next morning. The bird of prey migration is in full swing, the storks are also moving through in big numbers. A great sight.
