I'm sure you'll love Brittany, we've had many wonderful stays there. But it depends on what you want, it's a big region, lots of different camp sites, some small, some very large. Are you travelling with children? The coastline is stunning, but so is the
inland, moorland area. Check out all the websites, there are many, and enjoy!

You don't say when next year you are looking at going but if its NOT July/August you could use Acsi. They have a website for Acsi discounts and the main Acsi Eurocampings, well worth a look. As Pliers said there are thousands of sites in France and Brittany
has itsd fair share, don't overlook the municipal sites either there are some very good ones out there for as little as 10€ a night. If you need any help don't be afraid to ask on here.

For a first visit to Brittany I suggest part of your time at Camping Pors Peron - British owned and managed so no language problem, spotlessly clean, cheap ACSI card prices outside peak season, and best of all they give 20% off Brittany Ferries fares. But
do go on from there to visit other places as well.

We are Brittany fanatics and have been going for 20 years !!

There are masses of really nice sites. To suggest just a few - Chateau de Galinee and Le Chatelet (both at St Cast, bookable throught the  Club's overseas site booking service and close to St Malo if you are at all nervous about driving too far on your first
trip), Plages de Beg Leguer (at Lannion) and Le Grand Large (at Camaret in the far west of Brittany).

You could almost stick a pin in the map and there will be a nice site nearby. Once you try Brittany you'll go again and again. Good luck !!

What is an ACSI? Can you tell me what to book first ferry or site. I have no experience of this and need help. Thanks

ACSI is a Dutch based organisation inspecting sites, listing them and selling an off peak discount camping card with their site guide. Google will give you more detail than that.

Either let this Club book a package of sites and ferries together for you ( a pain free method but a limited choice of sites ) Or book a ferry as a first step and sort out sites afterwards.

Shirley - if you could say when in the year you are going, that would influence the advice given considerably (e.g. the need to pre-book sites or not).

We are  goinng early June as we hear this is good time of year to go.  I think a sailing too St Malo would be best as I share the towing with my husband who ha a seriouss heart condition and the shorter we have to drive the better.  So a camp site within
1 hours drive from the port would be ideal.  Thanks for you the advice - I have posted on CaravaneersRus but seem to get too many jokey replies but no real advice. Thanks again.

Hi, if you know which area of Brittany you want to visit, I'd book the ferry first. St Malo is lovely itself, and the best port for the Carnac region with it's fantastic megalithic sites. Roscoff is better if you prefer the wild and wonderful far west.

It's worth getting the Club's free Venture Abroad brochure, even if you don't book with the club. There's a wealth of info in there. Most of it is on the Club website, too.

Our 1st trip abroad with the 'van was to Brittany, many years ago. We pre booked everything with the Club. We've returned to Brittany many times since then. I'm sure you'll have a wonderful trip.

Hi, again. I think we must have posted at the same time. If you're using the St Malo crossing, it's worth considering staying in the Dol area. There are some good campsites there, and it's handy for Mont St Michel, which is well worth a visit.

West of St Malo, the Cap Fréhel area has wonderful beaches, cliff walks etc.

No need to book for June, and you'll get a worthwhile reduction if you get an ACSI card.

Personally, we would never pre-book any sites.

You can never really tell what they're like from brochures and web sites, so we like to keep tbe option to move on, if we don't like what we see when we get there.

If that excellent advice from Pliers appeals to you then Camping Le Vallon aux Merlettes at Matignon (the website is CampingMatignon.com) would be a good starting point. It's under an hour from St Malo ferry port, has glowing reviews on UKCampsite.co.uk and will only cost you about £11 a night in June with an ACSI camping card.

Good Heavens, Eurotraveller! You're making me blush.

    Off topic, sorry.
