We normally get the Saga Platinum Credit card to use in France but as we left it too late it will not get to us in time. So do we take english money and change over in France or get the Euros here .. When we get fuel we think that could be a  problem if
there is no kiost where we can pay with euros. We already have quite a  lot of Euros but would probably need more ..

I don't think I would ever take cash to change abroad. Better to get euros in the High Street before you go although this won't be as economic as getting cash out of an ATM abroad if you have the right card. Do you not have any other credit cards or debit
    cards?

I've found the Post Office online service has a good rate for providing Euros. Even finer rates if ordering £1K +.

There are high street outlets in Uk which will offer you commision-free purchase of euros, but beware - don't use your UK debit card to pay for them! Draw cash from your bank and use that to buy your euros. If you use your card, your bank will charge you
    a transaction fee!!

Meanwhile, use your UK credit card to buy fuel abroad: use  your debit card to draw cash, and just take the hit on exchange fees.

Exchanging UK Cash abroad is expensive. Have used ICE for many years good exchange rates and reliable service backed by Raphaels Bank. Regarding fuel autoroutes all have kiosks accepting cash and hypermarkets but only between 0800-1200 and 1400-1900, overall
the number of fuel outlets in France has decreased over the years anyway.

The "Bible" for travel money is
    Moneysavingexpert
.  Check out what cards you have because some debit and credit cards really are from "hell" when it comes to spending abroad.  Might be best to take enough euros.
