Venice
Off to Venice have all of September to get there and back. Driving in a motor home fron Dunkirk any suggested routes and places of interest to visit will be much appreciated .Will have bikes with us, info on Aires and campsites also. I will be avoiding toll
roads .I also have Acsi and all the Aires France.Info on a Handy site for Venice . Thanks.

Well, with time to spare on the way you can stop and look around Luxembourg, Metz, Nancy, the Vosges, Alsace, Lake Constance, the Tirol and over the Resia Pass into Italy. That's all pretty toll free apart from the Arlberg tunnel and a short term Austrian
vignette. I can't help with choosing aires, but we found good campsites at all those places in the Club's Touring Europe site guide. Take care.0 -
Another route quite a few of us use is Belgium, Luxemburg, Germany then Ferne Pass into Austria then either Reichepasse (Landeck) or Brenner into Italy. To avoid getting an Austrian Vignette, although it is quite cheap for a 10 day one, use either Landeck route or stay off motorways until Innsbruck West just past the airport, although you will have to pay a toll for the Brenner and are then on the Italian motorway system. Toll free until Italy or Brenner. Fill up in Luxemburg (same cheap price on the motorways as off) and then Austria! I caravan but would suspect you need at least 3 days to do it in a motorhome. Where to stop? We like to spend a few days in Bavaria (try the Algau area near Obersdorf - a couple of sites). Austria is magnificent and there are plenty of sites. There is a nice site in Merano on route Landeck - Bolzano. In Venice try Camping Ca Savio (ACSI) on the Lido; you get a ferry to Venice and then use the Vaperiso for getting about (best to get an inclusive ticket). Look at inland Veneto near the Dolomites.

If your main purpose in going to Venice is to explore the City and its islands might I suggest you consider Camping Miramare at Punta Sabbioni which is only a short walk to the ferry to San Marco. A review and some pictures here We have stayed at Ca Savio which is a nice enough campsite but currently its losing out 3-1 to Miramare from our visits!!! Some pictures of Ca Savio here There are good cycle routes from both campsites. BTW if you have never been you will be enchanted with Venice but allow a few days as there is a lot to see.

We had a day out in Venice on our way back from Coatia last October. We stayed at the ACSI site at Oriago on the mainland and caught the bus. It's not as attractive a spot as Punta Sabioni ( apart from Jesolo tat!) but it's easy and cheap to get into Venice. Here's our Story, complete with a link to the campsite.

Ca Savio does not seem to be ACSI anymore. Sorry. Yes DavidK Miramare does look nice.
I should have said that I don't think Miramare is an ACSI site but they do have some discounts for age and length of stay.

Head to Freiberg ASCI Camping Hirzberg nice German medival city. On to Innsbruck around north of Lake Constance and via Inn Valley (Vignette 8.8e + Alberg Tunnel 9e) stopping at ASCI Camping Nattersee. Onto Venice via Brenner and Dolomites via Bruneo and
Cortina d`Amprezzo. ACSI Camping Venezia is probably the most convenient site for Venice two minute walk to bus, buses every 15 min around 10 mins into Venice 6e return tickets at reception. (Note bus to Venice is via footbridge over dual carriageway not suitable
if any mobility problems) Campsite has very modern facilities, restaurant and semi hardstanding (Venice can be wet!). Consider day tickets for transport incl vaporetti boats) available near bus station on first trip in (20e 1 day 30e 2 day 40e 3 day). Beware
service charges in cafes etc prices more reasonable the further you are from the hot spots and generally reasonable.0 -

We have thought about different sites for Venice. I quite fancy the one at Fusina on the opposite of the lagoon as it saves a long drive round. The beauty of catching the ferry from Punta Sabbioni is the approach to San Marco by boat. Not sure where the

We have use the ferry from Fusina a couple of times and the landing is about 100-200 metres from the site. We used the parking next to the campsite and the ferry goes to, from memory, Spirito Santo which is a short, very lovely, walk to the Grand Canal.
We have done this when staying on Garda but would think the site perfect as a base for a couple of days visiting Venice.0 -

We have just returned from an amazing week at Union Lido, on your recommendation.
We didn't take the caravan but stayed with a company called Bolero.
Your comment was "this is normally the kind of campsite l would avoid, but it's really rather good", you were absolutely spot on.
l believe it's the attention to detail that makes it that little bit special.
