Ferry Offers with CC

I joined the caravan club partly to take advantage of the ferry offers advertised, such as "Caravans travel free on selected sailings"....and guaranteed cheaper sailings.

Well, my sailing from Calais to Dover halfway in September was an actual sailing of £2.36 on an £85 crossing....and the free caravan offers are nowhere to be seen on the site.

A saving is a saving you might say, but by not booking directly at £2 more, I am giving up my chances to have regular emails from the ferry companies with special offers.

The camping and caravanning club regularly produce a printable PDF file with ferry discounts for members by the way.

    Hi Dr Nigel,

From my experience the best saving are on the longer crossings I have saved over £200 on the Portsmouth - Caen crossing for next May by combining it with 3 Camping Cheques.

Having changed our return Tunnel crossing whilst away for the third year running you need to consider how easy it is to change. The Club are only open Monday to Friday normal working hours whereas the Tunnel are more easily available and bookings can also
be modified on-line (although that didn't seem to work this year).

Hi, assuming that you meant a saving of £2.36 then I can see that you would perhaps be dissapointed BUT as AD and Siane have said it is on the longer crossings that the larger savings are made.

I have made a few posts on this subject and the one thing that I always try to remember myself is that you must never assume that a deal that you, or someone else, got, is going to be available when you want it and on the route and with an outfit type that
    you will be using.

Best discounts this year seem to be by getting an ITX fare-where you combine site and or Camping Cheques with a ferry-using Brittany Ferries. Last year we used Harwhich-Hook and it was cheaer than Dover-Calais.

We travelled Plymouth-Roscoff this year and again it was a sunstantial, olver £200, saving. As we are in Cornwall Plymouth is obviously our first choice but, as I said above, keep an open mind-what are your start and finish points-and use the booking faclity
    to make comparisons.

Also dont forget that the day and time of day can make a big difference especially in  the 'high' season.BF afternoon crossings can be lots cheaper than morning crossings going out but coming back the morning sailings are usually cheapest.

It depends which crossing you are using, we travelled Portsmout to Caen earlier this year on a "caravan goes free" and wil lbe on  NSF to Zeebrugge later this month also on the same basis. Have already booked next Aprils Portsmouth crossing again on the
    same deal.

Is it still caravans free Sat and Sunday on NSF?

We missed our usual trip this year due to my daughters wedding so we fully intend to make up for it next year.

    Thanks AD.

I am hoping the club staff member will be letting us all know when the NSF are open for next years bookings.

We saved over £150 on a Stena crossing last month and a similar amount on a DFDS crossing last October.

The savings have easily covered membership

I do not remember ever seeing a "caravan goes free" offer on the short channel crossings, but have certainly made use of the offer on the Hull/Rotterdam route several times, plus another great saving with the Camping cheques offer.

For a short crossing, we book with whoever has the best price at the time, sometimes direct, sometimes via CC.

Yesterday I booked an April 2017  CC  tour ( Dutch Bulb Fields) and asked about a ferry crossing  but was told they were not able to arrange the ferry because it's not on the system yet. Looked it up myself on the DFDS  web site and there it
    was , no problem. Frown

I have just booked a ferry crossing from Portsmouth to Santander direct with Brittany Ferries. I phoned the CC for a price and it was exactly the same. There was no discount even if I bought Camping Cheques.

    Sat here, currently in Luxembourg.

Caravan was free on Hull - Zeebrugge and Hull - Rotterdam on weekend departures. It has been so good and easy I am going to try and book again for end of school holidays if I can.

    Superb

As AD has said it is difficult to make direct comparisons and you have to make a reasonable comparison to see the possibilities. In general we have found in recent years that there are little if any savings on the short sea routes and that with BF the France routes offer great savings, on some routes at some times, but the Spain routes dont. Maybe this is something to do with the fact that all the Spain routes that BF operate seem to be quite busy so perhaps there is no need for them to offer discounts.

With the quote system it is really quite easy to make a comparison of the differing prices and my quote for a BF crossing from Plymouth to Roscoff next June with an ITX fare is £361.10 cheaper than booking direct with BF.

I appreciate that being in Cornwall often narrows down the viable alternatives but we have over the years used most routes to get away, last year we used Harwich-Hook,including the short routes in the days of the £69 return for car and van as many holiday were to Italy so it worked but the main thing is to approach it with an open mind and assume nothing.
