Club site near Caen

I am arriving in Caen on Tuesday at 9.45pm and have camping cheques to use.

Could anyone suggest a suitable site for me and my family to arrive at that time of night after a ferry.

    I am afraid you will have to wait until 20th August when the main season ends before you can use Camping Cheques at a site anywhere near Caen.

    As Deleted User User says Bella Riva is the one most of us use as it is so easy to find at that time of night.

    Does anyone know if twin axles are allowed.  Our Caravan book. ( 2011) says no.

    We stayed there several times with our twin axle but there are new owners now so maybe a phone call or e-mail is in order. I don't remember seeing one when we were there twice this year but I wasn't particularly looking!

    Thanks for the advice near cean - anyone know of anything nearer Le Mans - or is it just that bit too far for book in?  Also is it safe to park in an Aire?

    The
    Municipal Campsites website     is a very useful one for finding overnight sites in towns and villages along your planned routes and covers all regions of France.  The link will take you to the Pays de la Loire and covers the Le Mans area.

    Thanks guys for all your help on the two caen threads.  Spoke to Riva Bella, no problem at all with twin axle even though the new club sites France book says no !

    Booked Riva Bella yesterday to ensure no problem in case there are loads of caravans on our evening ferry all wanting to stay there. 20 Euros a night

    The Club has booked me in at Point du Nord, we are booked on an early ferry out of Caen. Any comments ? Is it esy to find?

    Do you mean Le Point du Jour as this is the one the CC suggested to us?  

    If so that is relative to other options a long way off the port by road and IMO far from a suitable night stop off for using the ferry in either direction. It is very unlikely to be “on route” for nearly any holiday in France meaning big detours. IMO a very odd choice by the CC  to suggest to ferry users. 

    We have over decades being using a small site in Ranville, Les Capucines, which is just over the Pegasus bridge. Within 200 metres you will drive past it on your way to and from Le Point du Jour on the D514 Cabourg Road, but it is very much closer to the port, as said close to but the other side of the Pegasus bridge. 

    Finding both is easy on leaving the port as you are almost certainly driving out on the big dual carriageway towards Caen which is the D514/D515; you must keep an eye out for the D514 Cabourg turn off.

    The site is geared up to accommodate the late arrivals and early departure of the ferry sailings. The site is pleasant enough for more than an overnight stop if needed.

    There is another site a long way from the port trading also as "Capucines", so be aware if Googling etc.

    Sandgroper, Cancel the site booking - for an overnight stop before an early morning ferry stay at the obvious site 500 metres from the port , mentioned early on in this thread by Another David and Longtime Caravanner rather than a site 8 miles away.

    We came through Ouistreham a few weeks ago. We arrived there on ther early ferry and as we drove down the dual carriageway towards Cae, the traffic jams going the other way persuaded us that we should stop at the site near the port on the way back as we
    were going for the early ferry back to the UK. There was no way we could have caught the early ferry if we tried to driver through that level of traffic.

    You probably saw me in the queue. They were having one of their tantrums and had only opened one check in and were being as painfully slow as they could be. The consequences was we heard later on board that the tail back completely locked up the town, till
    having made their point, they switched back into being sensible. Delayed the ferry a while. Fortunately we were just a few vehicles from the booth so could see nothing was happening properly but even so it took us 30 minutes to move that far. In reality it
    would not have made any difference how close you had stayed over night, till they decided to work nothing was moving and the ferry waited till it cleared and was full.

    In June a few of the impatient Brits disembarking tried to go down the lane on the right hand side towards Passport Control clearly marked for lorries, it did`nt go down well with the authorities!

    If you have an ACSI card it is 17 Euros.
