We found that where we went the french sites were as empty of both Brits and the Dutch thoughout this June as we have ever known in 30 odd years of going.

You must be joking ocsid I was thinking there was nobody left in the Netherlands. The last 5 weeks I have seen nothing but the Dutch both in Spain and France with a smattering of Germans and Belgiques. Next to no British.

Not joking at all, we saw this June only a fraction of the Dutch we normally see, [Our 5 week time slot was near equally spent near Angers, Brantome, Sarlat, Martel in the Lot, Brive and Loches. Brantome was the only one anywhere near "normal" for this time of the year.] On the outgoing ferry we believe there was only 15 caravan/motorhomes but the boat was otherwise stuffed due to the knock on effect of preceeding industrial action.

Something is keeping them away but we can only speculate; what might be easier to predict is that sites that rely on off peak season trade to survive are going to be getting fewer if this continues.

We were on holiday from April to the end of June. Starting in  Spain and had planned to spend June in France, however with the fuel problems then the flooding followed by more bad rainy weather we decided to stay in Spain untill we had to go for the ferry
at Caen. Every site we were on in Spain and Portugal were very busy with French and Dutch campers, one of the sites we had stayed on the previous year and had been less than half full, this year was bursting to the seams with Dutch and German campers, all
dodging France because of the weather and fuel problems.

I think the weather and the industrial actions had a lot to do with it.

Some sites were quieter than we had expected, though that was in May,  others in mid June were really busy, plenty of Dutch, German and British outfits.

We're off to Germany in a few weeks and the recent events so widely covered in the press seem to form a triangle around our 1st stop before we travel south around Munich to Austria.  We're keeping an eye on the situation but it would have to be seriously bad for us to even consider abandoning our plans to travel with our three children.  We'll be vigilant but you can't let the idiots win and anyway, where is truly safe?  And as for the presence of the British, we found we were a woefully small minority in Germany last year, which is sad because it's such a great country with fantastic people.  I'd recommend anyone to go there.
