Burgundy Recommendations

Planning on visiting Burgundy in September and would appreciate any site recommendations. Will be in motorhome so close to a town or village and public transport would be good. We will be coming from Sarlat and at moment thinking Beaune might be a possibility
but open minded. After Burgundy we will be heading back to Zeebruge for ferry.

    You could have look at Camp L epiviere (excuse spelling)  at Gigny sur Soane , Acsi site , good facilities.

    Burgundy recommendations? The 2005 and 2010 were good years. Wink

    We recently had four nights at Pont du Bourgogne in Chalon  sur Saone, just south of Beaune. Popular as a night stop but with good facilities and location. Fifteen minute walk into large and pleasant town and lots of easy cycling/walking. We were also heading
    for Zeebrugge. An ACSI site.

    im pretty sure we have stayed on the aire in Baune, its right in the town....and free, IIRCWink

    Glad that you started this as we are now thinking of Burgundy in September and I know next to nothing about the area except for good wine!

    I have 14 camping cheques that need using so if anyone knows a good site/area that takes those it would be good.

    The site at Meursault looks quite nice; never stayed but cycled past it a few times.  It used to take CCs, but, in common with so many, now takes ACSI.  The same with Santenay, a bit further down the road from Meursault.  Have stayed there about 4 or 5 times
    now, lovely cycling, right in the middle of all the vineyards and also close to the canal.  We've also stayed at the municipal at Cormatin, with lovely big pitches and right next to the Voie Verte for some nice cycling.  Cluny further down is also a nice site
    and the small town is within walking distance and very nice.

    Sore subject! We didn't get there as the pesky French did a fuel strike when we half way down France and we didn't dare risk going a further 200 miles in case we couldn't get back. In hindsight we would have been ok but hindsight is wonderful. We had a ferry
    booked Portsmouth/Caen for August and have just postponed that to next May to try again to get to Natura.

    In the meantime we are thinking of getting a ferry Dover/Calais in August but can't go too far south as I can't cope with the heat.

    I can thoroughly reccommend Camping Grappe D'Or at Meursault. Lovely views and  a very good camp restaurant with bargain wine! http://www.camping-meursault.com/en/

    Jamsdad do you know if you can get from Camping Grappe D'Or at Meursault to Beaune by public transport?

    Also like the look of Camping des Sources at Santenay anyone stayed there if so again can you  get to Beaune by public transport?

    I have been to both the sites you mention and both are good sites. However if you want to be in Beaune why not try the superb Camping Municipal in the town? Assuming you are reasonably fit its a relatively easy walk into town and you can even walk to the large Le Clerc north of the town. I have done both with dodgy knees!!! Some pictures here

    You can walk in to Meursault from Grappe D'Or and there are regular buses from Meursault to Beaune

    I too have deliberated between the municipal and Grappe D'Or but what settled it for me was David's comments on another forum in 2014 that there was the hum of city noise at Beaune and good views at Grappe D'Or. We won't decide until August whether we are going back to France this year but have the holiday planned just in case! I get nearly as much pleasure out of the planning as I do the excecution. Sad woman!

    There is a bit of video about Grappe D'Or on Youtube by Chris Gosling who used to do the Caravan Channel on TV.

    We have stayed at Grappe D'Or at Meursault, Des Sources at Santenay and of course Camping Municipal Les Cent Vignes in Beaune. All of them are nice sites. Noise seems to mean different things to different people. The site in Beaune is not noisy per se but the fact that it is in a town there will be background noise. Unusually for a municpal Beaune has facilities to match the other two sites, although Grappe D'Or did have a nice restaurant. Beaune also has some hardstanding pitches. As the OP has a motorhome it would not be totally unrealistic to suggest that he could visit all three sites?

    David I had come round to the idea of just a couple of nights at Beaune Municipal and the remainder further out. Still getting used to idea of greater moving flexibility with Motorhome v Caravan. Probably stay further out first then I can arrive at Municipal
    early before it fills up. Will be travelling from Sarlat but think it will be too far on one hop. Anyone any recommendations for site in between the 2 at moment looking at Blot l' Eglise which seems about half way.

    We've stayed there several times as per my earlier post.  I don't know anythng about public transport from there though.  However, as you now seem to be considering staying at Beaune with the MH, I presume that's no longer a necessity for that particular
    site.

    Can recommend the site in Santenay, very quiet, and on the newer part (which is the photo David K has posted) you have lovely views.

    If you're using autoroutes, the route would take you via A89 to north of Clermont Ferrand, then A71; if you're just after an overnighter, then the municipal at Gannat (D2009) would be good, or a bit further north, the one at St Pourcain sur Sioule, again
    on the D2009.  The latter also has a nice aire.

    If you want a few days on a site, then the site at Digoin is a good bet; we've stayed there a few times for 3 or 4 days; we cycle a lot, but it is an easy walk into the nearby town and there is an interesting canal bridge over the river Loire.

    I've lost count. Is that twelve Burgndy recommendations so far? Time to get the site guide out of the door pocket and just look for a site at the place you want to visit. Isn't there one in every village?

    Thanks for all the recommendations and suggestions. I now haver plenty of alternatives when I'm travelling in September. It makes things so much easier with a bit of local knowledge.

    Excellent 2 nights at Beaune site move on tomorrow to meursault. Fantastic weather much better than we had in France in June.

    We left Meursault a couple of days ago and as you say much better weather for the past two weeks than we had in May and June in France; in fact probably the best weather for years. We had come hoping to see a bit of grape harvesting but were too early but
    on Tuesday when we left the fields were full of white vans! Apparently its going to be a poor harvest anyway as the grapes were ruined by late frosts and hail storms.
