Migrant Problems at French Ports

Last September 2015 we had major problems with migrants blocking approach motorway to Calais.  Can anyone tell me is this as bad now and if any other ports are safer.

If you scroll down through this section you will find several posts on the same subject. Apart from one contributor having serious problems returning to Calais late at night the concensus was that there is little if any problems at Calais since new measures were put in place especially for day time crossings.

Returned through tunnel last Saturday morning no problems. Stayed in the Calais area for two weeks again encountered no problems and in fact saw very few migrants.

We returned yesterday morning via Eurotunnel, on the 8.20am train, arriving there at about 7.15am, and saw nothing whatsoever, other than a lot more fencing further out than last year, ie very close to junction 40.  Fuelled up at Auchan on Saturday afternoon,
driving past the junction for the tunnel, and again, saw nothing at all.

We went through Calais a couple of Fridays ago and nothing to worry about, there were 3 police riot vans parked up on the approach road by the new fencing and i felt very safe indeed, just try and do it during daylight though.

We're going next week via the tunnel.  We did last year and my wife had some sleepless nights when we were due to return. On the day before we were able to visit Calais to get some fuel and wine and there were no problems.  Thank you for your reassuring
replies as I will no doubt need them to reassure my wife again when we return late August.

Write your comments here...Why, sorry to ask but---  as we spent many years holiday touring all over France including the Med Coast and over the border to Andora  and never once had to travel through the night.

Do did we when we used Dover. It works out well from a Yorkshire based Friday after work start.

Seems that these days it's not a good idea although I defer to those with recent experience.

It's all going a bit wrong at the moment.

Just as in the real world, conversations tend to drift the longer they go on and the immediate question has been answered.

Hope you have a super trip.

I'm scared to travel to France after booking it. Anyone else in the same situation.

I don't believe you are in any more danger over there than here. We will never know how many plots our security people have foiled but one day these maniacs will succeed as they did with the London Underground bombs a few years ago. Only sensible to be aware
but don't let it stop you doing anything or these people will have won.

Don't worry - you'll be absolutely fine.  The problems at Calais are exagerated by the press who have some axe to grind.  Fences have been extended, there are more police around, and despite what you read in the paper, you probably won't notice anything
    at all.

Come to France - despite the recent outrage there are no problems.

Tinaives, I am sorry you feel like that even though two  sensible ladies have tried to reassure you. Perhaps you might be happier to stay at home and talk to your GP about your anxiety problem. I do  hope he or she can help you and that life begins to look
    brighter for you. Good wishes.
