Routes to Venice
My wife and I are joining the Caravan Club's tours based on sites near Venice and Rome this Autumn. We are trying to plan our route to Venice and then our route back from Rome. I was wondering if anyone had plotted these routes before and would like to
share their experiences. We live in Devon and usually cross from Plymouth to Roscoff, but we can easily cross from Portsmouth or Dover.

How long are you thinking of taking to get to Venice and how many stops enroute?
I have a Route page on my
website if you would like to contact me through there or on this email address I have a planner I can do with stops en-route and provide you with route and map for same. dvphillips14@hotmail.comDianneT

We did a similar trip in 2012 which I have recorded in a Blog
here which might provide you with a few ideas. Rather interestingly going via Plymouth/Roscoff/Venice is about 100 miles shorter compared to Pymouth/Dover/Venice according to MSAutoroute and some would argue that its easier to drive across France than it
would be from Plymouth to Dover!!!David

Geoff, I don't suppose for a minute you are going to go straight there and straight back, are you, so the route you take depends entirely on the places you want to visit along the way. Alsace? The Black Forest? Chamonix Mont Blanc? The choice is endless.
Allow a week or ten days each way. Good luck.0 -
Caen to Freiburg via Sezanne (Autoroute Toll ~20.6 Eur, Tunnel Maurice Lemaire Toll 9.40 Eur)
Freiburg to Innsbruck (Vignette ~8 Eur + Alberg Tunnel 9 Eur)
Innsbruck to Venice, we went via Cortina d`Ampezzo but also Autostrada alternative via Brenner.

Daft question, but I thought tours like this were escorted?
Anyway - Calais - Dunkerque - Lille - Belgium - Mons - Arlon - Luxembourg - France again - Metz - Strasbourg - Basle - Lucerne - St Gotthard Tunnel - Chiasso - Milan - Verona - Venice.
Your route home starts Rome and follows the A1 north to Milan. I'd suggest a stop over at Orvieto - amazing.
