Changing a ferry booking

Thinking of perhaps staying here in France a little bit longer.  Does anyone know what it would cost to amend a ferry booking. We booked through CC with Britanny ferries, Caen to Portsmouth.

Couldn't you just email the Club or use the 'Chat now' facilty to get an accurate response?

If you book direct with Brittany Ferries there is no amendment charge unless you change your booking 5 days or less before travel.  The only supplement is any difference in ferry fare.  That is why we don't book our ferry  through the Club any more.

Always book Eurotunnel direct useing Tesco points. 4 hour window to travel, phone them any time to change. No third party involved, simple!

Our saving by getting an ITX deal this year was over £200 so unless you are very indecisive unlikley that ammendment costs will outweigh such savings!

Write your comments here...I had to amend a crossing with DFDS ( booked direct ) only £10 fee to change, which is why I don't book with the club either

The other consideration is that if you made your ferry booking through the Club and need to change it after 5.00pm on a Friday you cannot because the Club isn't able to take calls until Monday morning.  Another reason we no longer book ferries with the Club.

We were in this position once and turned up at the ferry port to ask if we could change it and they said as it was booked through an agent it couldn't be changed unless the agent changed it.  We had to pay for an additional fare to get back early.

We had this happen a few years ago, when my Mum passed away suddenly on the night we were travelling down to the ferry (Friday night).  We rang the ferry company to tell them, to be told we had to speak to the Caravan Club.  We couldn't do this until the following Tuesday, as it was a Bank Holiday.  However, to be fair to the Caravan Club, they went out of their way to accommodate us, by deeming this an 'amended crossing' and rebooked it some time later when we were able to travel again.  Not only that, but the rebooked crossing was considerably cheaper than the original one, so despite paying an amendment fee we got some cash back as well.

A couple of weeks ago whilst in Spain I became aware that I might need to change my return ferry booking.

I called the Travel Service to see what my options were and also asked what I should do if I needed to call outside of CC office hours. I was told that if I needed to call to use the number as printed on my confirmation document and, sure enough, the number
for BF was there and it stated it was for outside of office hours.

I did later change the booking and paid the £20 fee-which is less than 10% of the saving made booking via the club on an ITX with BF and cheques so for me not worth even thinking about booking direct but will depend on each persons travel circumstances.

I think as a result of several complaints, the Club did arrange for contact numbers for all the major ferry operators, so it would appear that this is now working as it should do.  If a booking agent such as the Caravan Club is out of contact due to restricted
hours, then that shouldn't affect being able to contact the ferry company to amend a booking.

Although I booked through the club, when I tried to amend my booking it was to have cost £30, so I amended my booking with DFDS directly and they charged me nothing, nice to know the club treats its members so fairly and well
