Fine for an overnight stop and walkable into the centre of Chartres.

Le Pre de l'Eglise at St Remy sur Avre (near Nonancourt) is reliable and popular.

Has that site at Morancez reopened? It was closed in 2014.

I'm not sure when OG & S was in Chartes, but three years ago when we were there we thought it awful! It was run down, fences were falling apart, the sanitary facilities were dropping to bits, and warnings about thefts and criminal damage were being handed out to everyone booking in.
Additionally the staff on reception were the most unpleasant people I've ever met. People have commented that this was because they don't speak English - but we speak more than enough French to get by and still they were unpleasant. Perhaps they've moved on and standards have improved since then. This is a real shame, since on stays several years before, we thought it was a great location for an overnight stop. This was my review from May 2013:
This used to be a site I would recommend as 'OK for an overnight stop' but don't think I would, after this year's visit. The site lacked maintenance everywhere - long grass, potholes, broken fences, broken hook-up points, and dirty smelly toilets. The staff (as mentioned) were unfriendly and positively surly.
Additionally we were given a printed sheet warning of thefts from the site (apparently becoming common on several other 'city' sites), and for all these reasons I think it would now be a site that I would avoid. I would try to find a more rural site, with cleaner and better maintained facilities. If more recent reviews don't suggest an improvement, then an earlier stop, just north of Dreux, would be at the much better Le Pre Eglise in St Remy sur Avre (Nonancourt in Caravan Club Europe), or further on but away from the main road, Camping Les Ilots de Val, or the Municipal site at Courville sur Eure - situated about five kilomes away from the N154.

Some pictures here for one of the sites mentioned by Val. Its a bit off the beaten track but they have a special area of pitches for overnighters.

Its over 3 years since we've stopped over at Chartres so I accept Val's comments. When we were there it was OK but clearly it has deteriorated.
