Insurance abroad
We are currently touring France in a car with caravan, I initially took out insurance with kwikfit as they gave European cover, however I then discovered this is for only 60 days, i explained what I'm doing and they gave an extra 30 days, taking us up to
3rd July, I asked them if this could be extended they said no, and if we did not return to uk by that date the insurance would be void! I contacted the company on this site only to be told they only give cover on a car up to 180 days,! However they wil give
cover for a motor home for a year, ok so we thought sale car and caravan and get motor home, as we want to continue touring Europe, however we would prefer to have motor home with a small car on a frame or trailer, so how do we overcome the insurance of the
car ie only 180 days.?

I am not sure what insurance you are wanting - is it simply an annual motor insurance to allow a full year's continental use? Or is it a breakdown recovery insurance for that same period? ADAC will cover the latter item for 365 days, and if you are over the age of 50 then SAGA has policies covering both items for that same length of time. No doubt other people will give you other ideas too - it is quite common.

Saga will cover you for an unlimited period in lots of different countries. Try a quote with them. It might be worth cancelling your current policy and get a refund and then take out a Saga policy. As we have a house in France it's important that our insurance covers us for any length of stay, and as many stays as needed during a year.
Our quote with Saga is about £70.00 more than our current insurance, but our current insurer will only cover a period of up to ninety days.

Trevor, And if you are under the age of 50 and not eligible for a Saga policy then there are specialist insurance brokers such as Stuart Collins in Swansea who can arrange motor insurance policies allowing 365 days in Europe.
