We're looking for suggestions please as it's an area we haven't been to. We tow an 8 metre caravan.

We are at La Riva which is at the Northern tip of the lake and think it's perfectly ok, it's small and quiet but has good facilities and a lovely pool but the showers cost a Euro but pitch sizes are ok.

Write your comments here...I've just been on your Croaita story to thank you for your advice, BEFORE seeing this, lol

Yes, we has absolutely no problems at all crossing any borders, in fact the only time we showed our passports was at the Slovenia/Croatia border control. As soon as they saw our British passports, they just waved us though! Not even a cursory glance in the caravan and it was the same on the way back too.

    Regards. Phil

Hi, we stayed at Camping Rannochio at Piano Porlezza. It's about a 15 minute drive to Mennagio, has decent pitches and there is a good supermarket nearby.

We stayed at Camping Rannachio last August for a few nights. I would not call it "a quality site" but it was pleasant enough with a good restaurant. You would struggle to get an 8m caravan down the access road and into the site (the road is exceptionally
narrow and bounded by walls) It's not on Lake Como and the supermarket is certainly not within walking distance. I love the area but I'll be looking for a site on the shores of Como next time.

The supermarket is certainly not within walking distance-that's why I did not say it was-and, whilst quality is obviously subjective, it is also definitely not 'in' Lake Como as per the OP title!

We could not say we found any sites of real quality at  the south of Como.

All the ones we saw and the one we used were basic often in the extreme.

Rivabella: easy access, possibly the best of the bunch  but don't quote me?

Camping Village Riviera: we stayed but had to use our own shower, very basic.

Camping Spiaggia: the access from the road is a frightening slope, we judged it impossible with our 7.3m van

Another site 2 Laghi (?) has an impossible narrow access, difficult even with the car?

Unless anyone has any better info, this area is poor for anything like acceptable sites and compares VERY poorly to Garda it's a different planet IMHO.

The lake and area,  Como, Varenna, Bellagio is beautiful and there's the Moto Guzzi museum but disappointing for campsites.

This might not be what you asked about, but as you are a caravaner you could base yourself on Lake Lugano. We stayed at Camping Eurocamp which was only 40 mins from Como to the east and 35mins from Lake Maggiore to the west. The camsite is in Switzerland
and has easy access and good pitches. You get three lakes for the price of one!
