Driveing to Croatia via Dunkirk

Just come back from Croatia towing a caravan. On the way down we stopped at Camping Waldpark, Hohenstadt, which is just by the A8 where it 'divides'. Good facilities there. It took 6 hours to get from there, round Munich and down to Villach area mainly due
to all the roadworks. Plenty of sites to choose from here, we stayed at Terrensee  Camping in Ossiach for an overnight halt. From here it's a doddle into Croatia with the roads getting better and better. Enjoy

We took the 106 almost directly south from Ljubljana  down into Croatia rather than the detour along the motorways. We were heading for Krk and it was a more direct route & we did it fine in an 8m van at 4t.

jonray57, I would be keen to hear of any experiences you had crossing the borders between Croatia and Germany re the current immigration situation. We were planning to head that way again in September but reports of difficulties/delays on the various borders
mean we shall probably head for Spain instead.

I've just been on your Croatia story to thank you for your advice, BEFORE seeing this, lol

Yes, we has absolutely no problems at all crossing any borders, in fact the only time we showed our passports was at the Slovenia/Croatia border control. As soon as they saw our British passports, they just waved us though! Not even a cursory glance in the
caravan and it was the same on the way back too.

We came back from Croatia two weeks ago and likewise had no problems at all at any of the borders on autoroutes.  Going South we crossed from Germany to Austria near Salzburg, Austria to Slovenia in the Karawanken Tunnel, Slovenia to Croatia on the Ljubljana
to Zagreb motorway.

Coming back, Croatia to Slovenia north of Rijeka, Slovenia to Austria in the tunnel and Austria to Germany near Linz.  we were approached by a nice young man in the service area north of Bled, looking for a lift to Paris.  Once upon a time we might have
entertained it, but he quite understood when we refused.

Back to the OP, I would second the site at Hohenstatdt recommended by Jonray.  Easy access to and from motorway and very pleasant.  Good value restaurant too.

Hi birderbilly. Having never towed I cannot really say but we are in a 8m X 2.34m 4 tonne mh and had no problems at all. Slovenia was really good but you do get higher near that border. The border crossing is tiny & once in Croatia the quality of the road
is worse & it drops down to lower land before picking up the main road again. We went down the motorway a short way before turning off for the direct route to Krk & that drop was quite steep so we took it steady but it was steep. I am not sure what you need
with a caravan but we climbed higher mountains crossing back through Austria & our friends had done that pulling their large caravan if that helps you. If you check out my stories in the forum stories section you will find some for that bit of our tour which
