The French Government have launched a smartphone app which people going to France may find useful. It is called SAIP, (Système d'alerte et d'information des populations) and you can download it onto your phone. If you have it running in the background on your phone whilst in France it will alert you to any terrorist incident, natural disaster or industrial accident in the area you are in, and provide you with instructions (in English) saying what you should do to maintain your safety. The screen will turn red, but it won't vibrate or ring you (in case you are in hiding from attackers!!!)

The app can be downloaded from the App Store or Google Play Store, and apparently you get an audio alert (sound and vibration) for all other alerts, but just a screen change in the event of a terrorist situation.
