Calais Overnight Sites?
Afternoon everyone. We've done all the other ports in France but not yet Calais and was after a recommendation for our return journey travelling from from Le Mans for an overnight near the port and were we can get off early the next day, have to be at the
port for 06:00. Many thanks, Roger.

The nearest campsite to the port - about 5 minutes - is Camping Fort Lapin at Bleriot Plage. We used to use it happily and regularly but I can't give you up to date advice, though there may be recent on line reviews to be had. And of course many people are
wary of staying in and around Calais these days.0 -
We use Camping Les Erables at Escalles. It's billed as an Aire de Service, but it's an elementary campsite with showers (extra) and toilets. Free wifi also and a view across the channel to Dover. The gate closes at night so you'd have to ensure with the owners that you can get out at 5.30 am ( time enough for your 6 am at the docks. The site is listed in the CC book, or google it.
We shan't be there this summer as we're grounded due to ill-heath.

Thanks for responses, we had already tried Camping Fort Lapin but they wouldn't open the barrier before 07:00 Have just
emailed Les Erables as would sooner have a booking in place in high season, not keen on leaving things to chance! Thanks again , Roger.0 -
Whenever we do that crossing we always use La Bien Assise. Its very convenient for the port and eurotunnel.
But 47 euros in August for a pitch there with 10 amp electricity - just for an overnight, arriving late and leaving at the crack of dawn, is a bit steep.

Depending on your route there is the Baie De Somme services on the A16. We stay there every year on both legs of our trip. It has a very good area for caravans and you can leave at any time. It is also free.
Never had any security issues due to numerous police and security patrols. Good for filling up the car as well with easy access to the petrol station.
Its about an hours towing from Eurotunnel.

We would whole heartedly recommend Les Erables.Wonderful view across the Channel. The spot that you see on the photo is highly sort after. You can see how yellow the grass is! The old dears that run the site are a bit behind the times but always welcoming.
I don't think they speak much English.0 -
We used La Bien Assise and were happy with it but were not at peak season so price not a problem then. We have also had a short stay there and got the impression that overnighters got the short straw on pitches. On the longer stay we got a far better pitch.
