France site recommendations
Hi,
Does anyone have any good campsite recommendations to the west of France...not too far south. Needs to be child friendly, active family who loves the French culture.
Thank you

How far do you want to travel, an hour, half a day, a day, or a couple of days. That would take you anywhere down the west coast, but as IanH says, France is a big place and there are literally hundreds of site fititng your description.
Are you planning this year's holiday, or for next year? If you want a beachside site then you may have limited choice if it's for this year, however, if you're prepared to be a little bit more inland then you should have less problems, though some popular sites may already be fully booked in the peak weeks (mid-July to mid-August). If you're going in late August you will have lots more choice.

True...we might go as far as Nantes....

We are going for 4 weeks next week! Was planning on revisiting the Loire Valley but decided to stay west due to recent weather. We basically wanted to 'plod' along down the west coast a little so could do little bits of travelling over the weeks to break
it up. Not really bothered about a beach resort. Most travelling in a day would be half a day...0 -
Next week yu shouold have no problems and can probably 'go as you please' until the early part of July. To look at a lot of sites in one easy search, having a look at the Eurocampings website (not Eurocamp). Click on a region and all the sites in that region will come up. You can have a quick look and if you like what you see there is a link to the campsite's own website.
If a site you like has the CC symbol in blue, then it may be worth looking at the ACSI Card. You can buy one from Vicarious Books in Folkestone, and it may save you quite an amount on site fees, depending on the ages of your children. There are sites from as little as 11 euros and some even offer free places for up to three children under six.
I can't help with recommendations, personally, as we haven't 'done' that area in all our thirty-odd years of caravanning in France!

If you want a top quality site at ACSI rates of €18 a night in the area which is probably least affected by rain at the moment, then try THIS one. Its at Pornic in Southern Brittany . Its in the ACSI book and on their website and their description is:
Family campsite with well maintained toilet facilities. The pitches are separated by hedges. 200m from the sea with a sheltered sandy beach between two cliffs. Lovely footpath along the coast. Open air swimming pool 400 m², indoor pool 300 m² with sauna, steam bath and beauty centre.
It is a large site though so if you like small it would probably not suit although it is likely to be quite quiet in June.0 -
If you want the south west of France I would recommend Bois Soleil at St Georges de Didonne about 5 miles south of Royan. We stayed there many times and even took our grand-daughter a couple of times. Lovely site right next to the beach with a pool, bar and restaurant,. Very nice area with plenty to do in the vicinity. Not sure whether they take ACSI as we used to use Camping Cheques.

If THIS is the one you mean Milliehull, I have heard people recommend it before but I don't think their facilities open properly until mid to end of June. You would need to check.

I think Milliehull may mean this one: Camping Bois Soleil. I know someone who goes there every year, often in April, but it would appear from the website that a lot of the facilities open on the 15th June.
For some reason I can't post a hyperlink - it appears to do everything as it should but no link appears - so here's the website I think she's referring to:
