Flooded or Waterlogged Site Report

Heading home soon from Croatia and can see that there may be problems with waterlogged sites being closed or haveing reduced capacity. Heavey rain in France and Germany mean that both routes may have problems with sites. Camping Sursee in Switzerland has greatly reduced pitches as it has no hard standing ones and the grass area is waterlogged. It could help people if a short report on any problem sites was posted. I had phoned ahead to check and was able to book one of the few avalible.

On 1st and 2nd June the campsites Camping d'Olivet at Olivet, La Grand Sologne at  Nouan les Fuzelier, Camping Municipal at Lamotte Beuvron, Le Sologne at Salbris, and Municipal Bellon at Vierzon were all affected by flooding. Many other sites in the Sologne couldn't be accessed because of roads closures due to the floods - Les Alicourts at Pierrefitte, for example.

These are all sites in the Departement of Loiret - but similar floods took place in the Departement of Seine et Marne.

However, I would say that from previous experience, once it stops raining the floodwater tends to drain away very quickly and it's amazing how soon sites can be back to normal.

We leave on Monday intending to go to the Black Forest. On BBC this morning there was news of flooding in southern Germany. So now we are wondering wether to change our plans and go into the Dordogne instead. Has anyone any info on conditions in the Black
Forest. Have phoned Caravan Club ,but they only have details of flooding in France at the moment.

Leaving from Zeebrugge on Sunday morning planning to stop at Chalons-en -Champagne Sunday and Tournus Monday and Tuesday before heading for Vaucluse area on Wednesday. Does anyone have news of Tournus site re possible flooding. I spotted elsewhere on CT
yesterday a site by the Saone was evacuated but that could have been 100 miles away?

On Tuesday afternoon Camping Ste Claire at Neufchatel-en-Bray was closed due to flooding, but I have no further updates after that.

Moulin Fort has already been mentioned by Hazel.

We left Grein in Austria a couple of days ago and the campsite there was pretty sticky, especially for motorhomes. For those looking for a site in Southern Germany for a transit site we are currently at Camping Lindbauer at Inzell near to Salzburg and all pitches are on hardstandings. Its in the ACSI book but beware of add ons!!! If people are looking for a site in Southern Austria Camping Central at Graz has pretty firm pitches especially for motorhomes, not so good for caravans.

No problems along here in the Tyrol and Voralberg on the A12 in Austria.  Have only had off showers at night these last few days. We are currently at Walch's Camping and Landhouse at Inner Braz a superb ACSI CC Site 5* you would find any better facilities anywhere.

We are off to Bodenssee on Sunday and then Black Forest 4 days later will enquire at sites I have booked to see if they have any problems.and report back here when I know..

We are currently at Camping Panorama del Chianti between Sienna and Florence. and the site is very wet but drying out now as, at last the sun has come out.  It has rained every day since we left UK on 27 May but have not experienced .the floods we are seeing
in France and Bavaria.  It looks as though the appaling weather is at last moving away and people will be able to dry out.  (Note for Deleted User User; the nice old man who used to run this site is no longer here but the site is exactly the same as it was 8 years
    ago!).

Bavaria is an extremely large area and the only part affected is around  Passau in the extrem south east corner By the floods I believe.

We have now moved on to Bolsena and the site is dry.  Weather here has been good for last couple of days but dull and light rain at moment.  Forecast for next few days mixed but at least it is warm and dull!

Any update on flooding situation on caravan sites in Germany anyone?  We're thinking of heading Bavaria / Black Forest Way in three or four weeks time but nothing fixed yet so could go to another region if there is still a problem with waterlogging.  Thanks

Update on the Sologne:  the site at Salbris, Le Sologne, is still closed and anyone heading there in the next few days or weeks should check.

The site at Nouan les Fuzelier, Le Grand Sologne, is now open again.

I would still recommend that anyone heading for the Sologne area checks campsites to see if they are open.

We moved today to a site in Limoges, all well here. Weather not great dull and occasional shower but ground is hardstanding so ok. Yesterday we were on an island in the Tarn at Moissac, river level was ok and ground firm, we had rain all day on Friday but
it was fine Saturday and today it was sunny as we left. I know this isnot in the area that was affected but hope it will help.

Are you at Camping d'Uzurat? We stayed there last October and found the hardstanding pitches very useful. We are currently in Molsheim in eastern France at the lovely municipal. Only trouble is there has been a lot of rain and the pitches, especially for motorhomes, are very slippery. I appreciate that many would say that having hardstanding pitches would ruin the look of the place but I am surprised more sites don't have some hardstandings for the increasing number of motorhomes using campsites. Also surprised how many Dutch motorhomes there are now when a few years ago there were hardly any. BTW is other half OK now?

..yes David we are at camping d'Uzurat, quite happy with the site, I believe it used to be a municipal. The chap on reception was very helpful, he's given us a huge pitch and we can get satellite no problem, wifi is great at 1€ per week. OH is better thanks
for asking. We have never seen so many Dutch as we have this year, there can't be many left in the Netherlands and yes lots now using motorhomes.

Camping Sursee in Switzerland very wet. Only one hard standing for M/H, which needs to be booked in advance. Caravans on grass only if they can be moved on and off with motormover. NO cars on the grass.

We are now in Nancy, Le Brabois.  Ground is soft with a bit of mud and some puddles, but not too bad.  Dutch MHers were complaining about muddy pitches!

Receptionist said they had had a lot of rain.  A lot of heavy showers overnight, only sporadic sunny spells today.

    Moving on to Luxembourg tomorrow.

We're heading up to eurotunnel from Sommieres near Montpelier on Saturday. We wanted to stop at Chateau L'Eperviere but when I phoned them they told me to phone back on Saturday morning as they have some problems with the river.

Does anyone have any suggestions where to stop Overnight?

The nearest alternative is Camping Heronniere, 5 km away, though that's by a lake. I'd be looking in the site guide for sites in towns away from both rivers and lakes - stay away from water.   What site guides do you have?

The Municipal at Beaune has some hardstanding pitches but you have to get there early.

We've arrived in Angers today, went through lots of rain really heavy at times. On approach to Anger we saw the rivers were all very high and though we might have to think again about staying here, however no problems at Lac de Maine site. The site has some
hard standings but ALL pitches have a hard bit at the front of the pitch, so when its wet you can park with your front wheels on firm ground. The sun is out and its lovely to see it, we have had rumbles of thunder in the distance and the sky went very black
    but no rain fell here.
