Afternoon all

We have received reports that the Col du Lautaret between Grenoble and Briançon (D1091) has been closed due to a land-slide/rock-fall. The alternative route is via Gap, which will add approximately 1 ½ hours on the journey time. At the moment it is estimated
that the road will be closed until next year.

I think this is a development of the initial landslide  that closed the road in April last year. It is being suggested that a temporary road may be built for local residents, but as Hazel says, a permanent solution will take a very long time.

    What a shame !

We collected our Autotrail Apache in March 2014 and went from the Dordogne to Lake Garda via this route in June 2014.

A challenging drive with spectacular views.

To hear there has been a landslide does not surprise me as the road is perched on the mountainside.

    Hi Hazel

Col du Lauteret is open from the Briancon side. It is between the Col and Bourg D'Oisons that the road is closed, and has been for 18 months now. Even the TDF was diverted last year. I went over the Lauteret in July 15, then took a right at the top and went
over the Galibier to get to Grenoble. Wouldn't recommend taking a van over though, although motorhomes do go over the Galibier.
