fingers crossed for you all it's sorted soon ,but one thought occured to me will it affect Le Tour -de France ,now anyone reading this and thinking what's that got to to with it ,plenty as it's big business in France ,lets hope the officials can push for a resolution ,any one who hasn't seen it ,there are a lot of vehicles involved ,team cars are Skodas ,they have team buses which are big coaches ,trucks that do the Tv coverage and the setting up of the stages ,and of course the sponsors ,if you haven,t seen it the sponsors go ahead of the race ,passing goodies to the crowds !!!

And I think another target for the strikers is the Euro's, football tournament, but hopefully there unions are led by the like of a certain C de Gaulle, who could'nt wait to chuck his hands in the air..

Exasperatec De Gaulle was so perceptive when he grumbled:

"Eet eez impossibel to govern a country which 'as 450 cheeses".

Travelling a week on Saturday for Chamonix. Is it worth detouring through Belgium, Germany & Switzerland?

An interesting one. As well as solving the fuel problem it's toll free on good roads to Basel, so even having to buy a Swiss vignette (or two if you are towing) makes it cheaper than using French motorways. But if you are towing be aware that it's a long
drag out of Martigny to get over the pass to Chamonix.

Thanks for your thoughts. Very useful. I've taken the train from Martigny, and walked that area, so realise the problems & sure I will cope. Thanks for heads up, I hadn't got around to going through the route.

The site is in Argentiere, so that knocks another 20 mins+ of the journey.

It's becoming a real problem. Half of my cousins are French , scattered all over France and they are normally pretty laid back but this is causing some difficulty even for the locals. If you have a Plan B it's
    worth considering

It looks like the next couple of days could be very decisive as to the sticking power of the French union.I think the French government mean to break the CGT union's power this time round.

Write your comments here...I should imagine it will be business as usual and they will waive the white flag.

I think that all depends on how much support the CGT get today and tomorrow.

Probaby best to fill up in Portsmouth before the crossing. We're booked on the ferry to Ouisterham Sunday 5th June, and intend to fill up in Portsmouth if the situation hasn't improved.

Filled up today around 1pm, no queues, no rationing, all fuel stations in Millau seem to be operating normally at present.

Later, at about 5.30pm we saw a tanker delivering fuel at one place.

    Hi KjellNN

Is this one any better for you? http://penurie.mon-essence.fr/w/

Hope you manage to find some fuel.

    Best wishes

    Hazel

    Yes, thanks, much better.

However....having checked Millau, I see 2 fuel ststions are now affected, including the Carrefour where filled up, they now appear to have no diesel!

    Not good.  Sad

We filled up at Cajarc in the Lot to day with no problems. Heading to the Auverne to morrow so your post is reassuring.

The Intermarche in Guemene sur Scorff , Morbihan Brittany let me fill up today no queues but I have heard it's not so good in other places in Brittany.  I am headed for Roscoff tomorrow and hope to tour a little before Sunday boat home but I will be careful!

    Hi KjellNN

Wondered if you'd noticed that if you click on a petrol station, the status message also includes the date that the report was posted? I am starting to suspect that the mass of orange oil cans are "left over" from previous days, some of them have dates from
    a few days ago.

This is partially wishful thinking on my part, spending a few days in Luxembourg before attempting the dash to Carcassonne! My other hope is that the peage autoroutes may be able to hold onto their fuel supplies better, no locals to nip in and mop up the
    fresh deliveries.

We returned to the UK last Sunday, 22nd May, after an extended stay in Spain. Leaving Salbris on Saturday morning 21st May, we were texted by a friend who told us of the fuel blockades at the refineries. When we got to Rouen, stations we had
used on previous journeys were closed but we did manage to find a Total outlet that was selling diesel so we filled up. There were quite long queues. En route to Boulogne for our overnight stop, we observed that many filling stations were closed
although fuel was still available at autoroute stations. Prices had been significantly increased and long queues were developing. Having sited our van in Boulogne we set off for some last minute shopping at the large Auchan hypermarket - the fuel station there
was closed. Two fellow caravanners were in dires straits with their vehicle running on fumes (their words, not mine) and with my tank 3/4 full, I drove around looking for fuel. I found an Intermarche supermarket at Marquise selling fuel so returned to site.
We borrowed a 10 litre jerry can from a friendly Dutch guy and then returned to the station where we filled it....ignoring the French signs that said you weren't allowed to fill any containers. Once the guys had poured 10 litres into their Jeep they were then
able to drive to the station to fill up. We followed just to make sure they got there. By this time - 8.00pm - the queues were considerably longer. We hope to return to France in a few weeks time but we won't be going until the current fuel difficulties are
resolved. I think current availability is just too haphazard. Today I had a text from the RAC warning of the current difficulties. I suspect that they wouldn't respond too favourably if we ran out of fuel on the way to Provence

If we had just been crossing the Channel in the last week or so, we would not have ventured into France, but we left home 17th April and crossed on the 25th, long before any of this started up.

To get to Germany Luxembourg or Italy we would need at least 2 tankfulls, so I think we will sit it out here for a while and see how it goes.  Nice site, shops nearby, weather good meantime.

A spare jerrycan of fuel might be prudent to at least enable a search for more fgood idea but check with ferry company. mine only allows 5ltr!

We have abandoned our holiday to France next week at huge cost. I am fuming and my children are devestated but I needed to make a decision while there is still time to sort something else out. Not easy as all the sites I have looked at are booked solid,
so we're extending the first part of the holiday in Kent to a week rather than one night. That wasn't easy either.

When we had a fuel strike I was hundreds of miles away from home, unable to get back, stranded with a coach full of school children!

Just noticed the link below on the Brittany Ferries site & I have been reading posts on other sites saying its actually not as bad as it seems, some fuel stations appear to have plenty of fuel with no restrictions at all. I suspect the toll road service stations will be ok'ish as locals havent rushed to fill up there plus its more expensive i guess. IMO simply the panic buying that caused the problem, apparrently sales were up 40% now everyone has fuel hopefully things might get back to normal, well as normal as it ever is in France

Trying to stay positive & looking forward to getting on the ferry on Sunday :-)

We are not due to go until the end of June, but I'm now beginning to think of 'an alternative strategy'.  We are due to head for the Mosel, then the Black Forest.  We then plan to travel down the Rhone to N.Provence and then on to the coast Frejus) before
going to Italy.  I'm now beginning g to wonder whether to skip France and go from Germany over to Austria and then into Italy......  I guess we will all just have to keep an eye on the situation, but things ae not looking good at present!

Have been reading all your posts with a heavy heart. We are due out  from Caen to Dordogne  on Thursday 5th June.  We can't change our plans other than to cancel as our family is due to fly out to us on the Sunday. We have  all been so looking forward  to going, as I imagine so have you all, and will be devastated if we have to cancel.  Won't be able to afford to go anywhere else if can't get refunded.  We were planning on using the toll roads as they are more direct but would there be less options for filling up?  Have not had too much experience of travelling in France so would really value opinions especially if anyone is travelling this way recently or in the near future.
