Breakdown and Red Pennant
Does anyone know the definition of breakdown on Red Pennant please? Is it literally the car is out of action or will it cover faults that need rectifying.

Not quite sure what you mean but I don't think any of them cover faults that are related to poor maintenance. They only cover a breakdown situation where they fix at roadside if possible or take you to a dealer where you have to pay for the job and parts (but they usually pay for shipping them to the dealer) or repatriate you (always a last resort and probalbly their choice, not yours) RP does have other options.
Of course it depends on the tiny print and you will have to ask if your specific requirement (can you explain more please?) will be met.

Hi,
On holiday in France last year someone on our campsites car broke down. It was towed by a garage representing the AA to the nearest Mercedes dealer for repair.
The repair was expensive but didn't cure the problem.
At the point of us leaving he had spent thousands of pounds in an attempt to rectify the problem but the problem persisted.
I asked why the AA wouldn't repatriate the car and the reply was because it was over ten years old!!
Poor chap was in a total no win situation.
Is this common practice l wonder and are people with older vehicles made aware when purchasing protection?
Murdy.

I have regularly seen age limits on vehicles and once it's in the garage, you are often in their hands if they can't fix it, it's up to you to negotiate with them until they do (although i can see your point about repatriation - would you want to pay for
a botched repair, have it taken home and pay again?) As ever you are in the hands of the "experts" on these increasingly hard to repair objects? Good Luck!0
