You can get absoluely up to date information about almost every fuel station in France on the
French Government website.  You can search a 'Departement', or any town or village and find the cheapest fuel in any area, or along your route.

Savings can be substantial, so check out the fuel stations around your chosen site, and make sure you're not filling up at the most expensive rather than the cheapest.

Most supermarkets give the best value fuel so I would go for them if possible. The cost varies like it does here.

Sorry to contradict Wildwood but our Freelander ran very roughly on French supermarket diesel so I stopped using it. French diesel tends to be cheaper than ours anyway.

Where to buy?   Cheap v Quality?

Having changed from caravan to motorhome recently and having just spent a month over there I have done the rounds of cheap v quality and can say that it is a lottery!       Whilst still using Sainsbury's fuel I travelled from the West Country to the tunnel very fully loaded for a month away and was getting 28 mpg.   Then filled up in France with BP on the motorway and very soon my mpg went down to 21.   This was on far better roads, in good weather and roughly same speed but no roundabouts!      The variation continued, even when I filled up with the BP higher quality diesel, I only got 23 mpg.   The poorest I have noticed is Total, but I think even the brand quality changes depending on region.     I paid around .84p pl in the supermarkets and around £1.04p pl on the Autoroute.

Still cheaper than UK, but what damage to engine?   Still have to discuss this with Fiat Pro.

The was a recent thread on supermarket versus branded fuels and there is overwhelming evidence that there is no difference, in fact, CT members have worked or are working at the refineries and depots and have stated categorically that the tankers fill from
the same tanks. MPG measurements are no proof whatsoever as it is impossible to reproduce the same journey and loading conditions. 7 mpg difference is hard to accept.

We always buy ASDA fuel here and in France normally supermarket but i do notice in France we get more mpg and performance from Total diesel so if I can get it a a reasonable price I go there, not noticed any difference in BP, Esso etc over supermarket fuel.
This has been in Freelanders and latterly a Tiguan.

If fuel suppliers could demonstrate that they could achieve better fuel consumption dont you think they might advertise this quite strongly? Fact is, they would be in breach of the trade descriptions act. Who knows what happens in France but I would be very
surprised if the situation was any different.

We are in the Jura district in France at the moment, diesel fuel varying between €1.08 and €1.16 (85p and 92p) dependent on supermarket or branded, and my car is running good on either.

Hi, we paid 1.05 euro today at Intermarche at Cussade Tarn et Garonne department if this helps. We used to have a disco and that did not run well on supermarket diesel but Landcrusier no problems.

The prix du carburants website, linked to above on Page 2, is the same one as in my hyperlink on Page 1 which calls if French Government website - perhaps not the right choice of name!

Around us, at the  moment, fuel is 105.9 but we have been paying as little as 1.02 during the last month.
