ACSI at La Bien Assise
Off to France again in 3 weeks time. As we get a later afternoon crossing through the tunnel after a drive down from the midlands we normally book our first night at Gandspette.
However, I just noticed that La Bien Assise is listed (1246 on p43) in the current ACSI guide, and it also appears that pre booking with an ACSI card is possible.
The normal online booking process has no facility for making an ACSI booking, and by the time extras (dog) and booking fee are added on, comes in at over double the ACSI price.
My question then is has anybody booked in advance for this site with an ACSI card, and if so how did you do it? Were you able to avoid the booking fee?

I've never booked with ACSI but can confirm that La Bien Assize is a very pleasant site. We've used it quite a few times as a stop-over and have never booked (mainly in May).
Why not just give them a call to confirm that they will have spaces?

Thanks Ian. That raises the question I probably should have asked - is there actually any need to book at all midweek in late May for an arrival around 19.00?

Their website says that reception closes at 1930 in low season so I would definitely call from the ferry port on the day to ask for a place and to give them your arrival time - in case you are delayed or the lady on the desk decides to go home early.

Not ACSI, and not La Bien Assise, but an alternative which is bookable by just emailing them with the date of arrival, no deposit and no booking fee. Only about 10 minutes from the tunnel:
Les Epinettes at PeuplinguesWe never book as a rule, but on the occasions we arrive from the tunnel at the same time as you, we do book, just in case. Some of the pitches are drive-through, which is ideal for caravanners for a one-nighter.
I emailed them last week for arrival at the end of May; emailed in the morning, email back in the afternoon with confirmation, job done, and no need to pay anything.

The Caravan Club's pre-booking price at Bien Assise (until the 27th May) is £18.29 per night, and we do not have a booking fee.
Also, if you book a minimum of two nights your dogs go free and you get free Wi-Fi.
This could be an option if you definately want to pre-book.You can call the travel line on 01342 488 378 or book on-line.

I am supprise having a motorhome you have not just opted for an Aire for one night.

After the first night we rarely book, and do use Aires and ACSI sites, but by the time we get to France, for that first night, I just like to know where we are staying. Hunting around for an Aire in the early evening doesn't appeal so much at my age!

I can understand your point of view Q but at this time of year finding a spot on an Aire should not be a problem. I usually get there in late afternoon and if travelling south head for the large aire at Le Crotoy, east there are a couple of good ones just
outside St Omer and north of course the one at Gravelines. There is a very wide choice.peedee

If you send a booking question from either the ACSI app or the ACSI Camping Card website you will find the sites respond and allow you to book. I use this regularly whilst touring just working a site or two ahead.

Thanks for the headsup PD, this is only our second trip to France with the motorhome, we were caravanners before, and I'm still feeling my way with using Aires.
I'll check out the Aire you mention, and maybe one or two others on our way back, for future reference.

Thanks for this tip. The app doesn't work on either my phone or tablet, but I'll definitely look into using the website.

If you do decide to use any of these Aires make sure you have some Euros with you. Last time I stayed at Le Crotoy it was 5 euros p.n. coins in the machine and display the ticket. Gravelines was 6 euros, take a ticket from the machine and the one near St Omar was adjacent the campsite in Arques and the fee of 3 euros was collected in the evening. Le Touquet yatch club is another good one but its 9 euros p.n. there, again pay at the machine.

Just looked at my Motorhome Parking App for the latest prices and the one at the yatch Club right at the point is now 13 euros with an addittional 2 euros for electric or water the other one on Boulevard de la Canche is 9 euros and looks like there is no charge for water. Stick to Le Crotoy which this year is 6 euros.

Look out for the new road from the chunnel to the campsite. It could be that it was built just for them. Used it a few weeks ago and was in Guines in 10 mins!!!
Yes indeed, not on our satnav so slightly odd, but makes it a very straight forward journey.....
