I use Eurotunnel as it is less stress for my dog and I put that above cost, but obviously your choice, the Caravan Club is always cheaper than direct to Eurotunnel for straight no offers quotations, and you can book anytime you wish.

Ferry is usually cheaper, but not always such a difference.

Your initial post said "go to frnce for the first time next august" my reply was based on this year, as its now only April.

I don't think you will be able to book the tunnel in August 2016 to travel August 2017.  The prices for the tunnel are generally not released fo the following year until the autumn.  I would imagine the ferry would be the same.

If you shop at Tesco and collect their points you may be able to use the tunnel for 'free'.  Otherwise not much in it although dogs may influence your decision.

As David says Eurotunnel release dates about nine months ahead on a rolling basis. One thing to consider with Eurotunnel is that their pricing works in a similar way to budget airlines so the fuller the Shuttle the higher the price so booking as far ahead
as possible usually gets you a better price. We use the Tunnel because we use Tesco Club Card points to pay for the majority of the fare and also because it always seems a much smoother operation than the ferries.
