Destination Santander
Hi all
been caravaning since September last year, and love it, we've booked a two week hols in Spain this September, going from Portsmouth to Santander. Any ideas anyone what two newbys can do in two weeks in Spain, don't mind driving for miles.
thanks

Almera is well worth a visit. No more than 45 minutes from Santander.

On the way back from a round trip of Spain and Portugal we both thought that the entire Northern coast of Spain looked like a must return option. I would check out opportunities in the The Picos de Europa and further to Galicia with the time you have.

Just make sure you spell it correctly. Almeria will take a lot longer than 45 mins.

Mountains, beaches, gardens, surfing, swimming, walking, museums, cathedrals, smart shops, concerts, galleries, tapas, wine, bullfights.

Hi Gary
Took our caravan abroad for first time last June crossed to Santander then worked our way through France back to Roscoff. Enjoyed it so much went back to Santander in September. Went up to Potes in Picos for a few days (2 hr tow from port) visited Fuenta
De from here. Returned to coast ( 1 hr tow) staying at Oyambre between Comillas and St Vicente de la Barquera. Visted various places from here including Santillana del Mar, Ribadesella, Barcena Mayor. Went to San Sebastian on June visit but this is probably
about 2.5 hr drive from Santander.ps if you want to eat in Restaurant on Ferry go straight there on boarding before finding cabin to book a table for the evening
Off again to France in 4 weeks can't wait!!

We only booked Potes for ease of mind as straight off ferry. Need not have bothered as site half empty and that was 31st August. The other site we used also had plenty of room. Leave for France 4 weeks tomorrow and not booking anything this time as recommended

Did this route last year. From Santander to Comillas (Gaudi's El Capricho and Altamira caves nearby - nice site on cliff top just as you enter town). Whole Picos de Europa region amazing, we we went on to Santiago de Compostella (camping As Cancellas), into
Portugal to Camping Orbitur at Angeiras for Porto (lovely city) then Orbitur Fiiguera da Foz for some beach time and watched local fisherman trawl sardines from beach nets and then Coimbra (impressive Roman remains). Back to Spain with overnight at amazing
aire at Vilar Formosar (€5 per night). Sightsee at Ciudad Rodrigo, fortified border hill town and back via camping El Astral at Tordesillas (excellent site, piped classical music in washrooms!) and really good time in Salamanca - beautiful old cathedrals,
city square and university buildings.0 -
The only risk to a holiday in northern Spain is the weather. It is not called "Green Spain" for nothing. A few years ago we were at the site in Santillana in June when it did not stop raining for about 10 days, last year we had a pleasant week in Santander
at the same time of year. Its the luck of the draw what you get.0
