We went "down Spain and back up Portugal last autumn". Here is our blog if it helps.

Like many others we stayed a while at Turiscampo near to Lagos.  Our favourite stop on the way up was Porto.  Most campsites were fine but nothing to rave about - I think that's typical of Portugal.  Did come across the wonderfully quirky site Camping O Tamanco midway from Lisbon to Porto, that was nice.

My wife has complete details of mileages, costs, the lot so if you want to ask a specific question please feel free to email me here: mail

Many thanks raynoray, I will have a read of your blog later tonight.

We've just noticed that there are not many Acsi sites or CC sites in Portugal, how easy/hard is it to find sites, what would be a good method. I've heard of Orbitor sites but not any other types.Undecided

    TG,

Many sites are cheaper than ACSI rates hence not many in the scheme! Orbitor is a big company and not a club. There are lots of locally owned sites and municipals e.g Coimbra at reasonable prices.

Write your comments here...There is not a great choice in Portugal but we found OK sites near to our proposed route.

Here is a complete list of the sites we used starting at our first night in Spain:

    4 nights Camping Acueducto, Segovia.

    3 nights Don Quijote, Salamanca.

    3 nights Camping Caceres, Caceres.

    3 Nights Camping Villsom, Segovia.

1 night Ria Formosa, Cabanas Portugal.

    10 nights Turiscampo Lagos.

5 nights Orbitur Guincho, Cascais for Lisbon.

3 nights Camping O Tamanco, Outeiro do Lorical.

3 nights Camping Sol de Vila Cha, near Porto.

2 nights Camping As Cancelas Santiago de Compostela.

1 Night Las Conchas de Poo near Llanes on way to Santander.

All sites were fine, there is always something that can be criticised but overall given lack of choice at times they were good.  Hope this is helpful.

    I live in Australia.

I recently got an email from a Portuguese chain of campsites. . . . . Orbitur . . . . offering me a discount on purchase of camping booklets for overnight stays at their sites throughout Portugal.

Almost two years ago now, we went to Spain and Portugal.

In Portugal, our second campsite was an Orbitur camp. . . . Albufeira.

I stated that we wished to stay a week (seven days) and the receptionist explained that I could buy a booklet of 10 coupons for Euros 105.  . . . . each coupon was one night's stay, with 230V power and water.

That worked out at Euros 10.50 a night!

I bought seven books and must have stayed at a dozen Orbitur campsites right up the coast to the Spanish border at Caminha,  as well as inland at places like Evora.

If you can get on to Orbitur and find out if you can get discount booklets with 10 vouchers, it will free up your choice of destinations to go to in Portugal, as Orbitur have over 20 sites dotted around the country.

    Good luck.
