5 van site equivalent in France
We wish to stay on small farm sites in France this July because we don't like the big ones. The Caravan Club only seem to list big sites.
When researching on the internet there are supposed to be lots of Farm Sites but I keep being directed to a web page with only 3 or 4 sites in the region (There are 9 regions) and some of these sites sre BIG!
Can someone point me in the right direction?
Not sure how this system works so if you wish to contact me directly I am at Charles@gbdobsonltd.co.uk
Thank you.

Other than British expat owned small sites are very few sites in France as small as a CL, but if you use the Camping a la Ferme website, and that of Gites de France, or laboriously Google each area for Aires Naturelles de Camping you will perhaps find something to your taste.. Their cut off size for those sites is usually 25 pitches.
But "when in Rome " probably applies. If you go to France and want to avoid big, brash sites, instead of looking for CLs do as the French do - use their network of municipal campsites. The Caravan Club actually lists a lot of them in their Touring France guide, and the French list them all in their Guide Officiel.
I hope that helps, but if you say where you are going then some of us will make suggestions.

When you say the Club only lists large sites are you thinking of the ones in the Advance Booking Service? If so the Club use the sites with the broadest appeal so they are all likely to be a bit of a compromise. Have you got a copy of the Club's European
Camping Guide for France, if not that is not a bad starting point for looking for sites away from the popular areas. As Eurotraveller suggests the Municipals are well worth looking at as they range in size from 20/40 pitches up to over 200.David

It had been my intention to start a "Important Information Thread" in the overseas section as we have in the UK section. However at the time it seemed (wrongly as it turned out) that we were about to get a new forum so I decided not to go ahead as it might
not carry over and it is quite a bit of work. I understand what you are saying about the CL in Europe question but I would imagine it would need to cover a wider remit than just the narrow subject of CL's. Perhaps if I were to start a thread entitled Small
Sites in Europe members could contribute their suggestions? If people feel that would be useful I am happy to get the ball rolling and make it sticky.David

We have puzzled over this for years as we never use Club sites, only CL sites in the UK and always look for small ones in France. Just the other day I discovered that on the ACSI web site there is a section for small sites. If you look at the menu across
the to pn the home page you will see 'Great Little' over towards the right hand side. Click on that and you will find hundreds to choose from.0 -

I have never used it myself but believe 'French Passion' membership gets you places on CL type farms where you can stay and enjoy their hospitality. Not sites I understand but someone who has knowledge may know better. Regards, Roy
