Travelling to Austria
We are travelling for the first time next month to Austria, initially Innsbruck, via Dunkirk, Belgium and Germany. We would be interested to hear of any recommended routes, campsites etc on the way or any problems with migrants and places to avoid. Thanks

How long have you got? The direct route is a straight line on the map- via Stuttgart .
We went instead via Luxembourg, Nancy, Alsace, Lake Constance, the Arlberg tunnel, and the Tirol, because we had plenty of time and they were all places we wanted to call at - with good campsites at all of them.
Your choice.

Another suggestion for nearer to your destination of Innsbruck you could travel down to the Austrian border near Fussen/Reutte and then take the Fern Pass to Nassereith and then the road to Telfs and then take a short cut via Motz down to the Inntel Motorway
at Sams and then onto Innsbruck. Don't forget if you use the motorways in Austria you will need a vignette which you can buy at the border.David

We went in 2013 via Dunkirk through Belgium and Germany and you can read of the experience in my blog

However the expert on routes to Austria is Dianne

Lucky you, a site you may look at is Lech Camping near Augsburg , handily placed just off A8 autobahn. Good clean facilities, restaurant on site, supermarket very close by and also fuel is close. I believe now in the CC pre booking set up, but in May you
may not need to book, i rung the day before to check availability.0 -

Agree brilliantly placed for the A8 but very expensive at E28 in 2013 however in May there were masses of pitches free. Certainly no need to book.

Perhaps that's why.

Just looked at Lech camping in the overseas sites section, price for May is £21.36 for outfit + 2 including elecrtric.
Not got a current ACSI book so don't know if they are listed.

If you haven't been before the campsite at Koblenz on the junction of the Rhein and Mossel rivers is perfect for exploring Koblenz (1 Euro ferry ride). The small town of Rothenburg am Tauber is also worth a visit. There are two campsites within walking distance
of the town. Both the above are on the route to Austria and the Fern Pass towards Innsbruck0
