My motorhome friend just asked to check if I need one as a car & caravan owner.

Any help would be appreciated

If you are going into city centres and urban areas - yes.  Otherwise - no.

Google will tell you how to order on line in advance for 15 euros.

You need one for cars and motorhomes in the same way. As per Eurotraveller if you are`nt intending to enter urban areas you don`t generally need one (but not always) however for peace of mind by sending a 5 Euro note and application/copy of V5 to Stadt Koln
(Cologne) you`ll have a plakette back within ten days see their website. I`ve used them for the last three vehicles.

At your first stop in Germany, find a local garage, present your V5, pay 5 euro and they will fix it on your windscreen for you.

    Thanks all

So very different now to when I was transporting  Lance missiles  around west germany during the cold war.

Have been back quite a few times since

Last time being 4 years ago.

Didn't need a sticker then either

There are "scam" sites online who will get the Umveldt Plakette (hope I spelt that correctly) for you for a fee so they can cost up to 40euro watch out for these It shouldn't even cost you 15e. You can get it online  from the Berlin government for I think
6 euro. They post it to you with great speed and efficiency .You need a scan of your V5 and you may need to compress the scan file. Well worth having the plakette in case you decide to or stray into a controlled zone. It lasts the life of your vehicle.

Get one in advance, at the right price, and one less concern on holiday!

Sorry, can't post live links on this forum!

I have made the link live for you, just highlight link text and copy then use chain link icon to paste.

I would also agree with you that if you are not in a particular rush for it, buying it from the link above is simple, fast and cheap. Saves a lot of faffing around whilst on holiday. Once purchased it will last the life of the vehicle providing they don;t change the goalposts on which engines get the green sticker!!!

I think you may find the German vernacular is

    "Pfaffing"
