Camping Allweglehen
We are going to this site in a few weeks time and I was wondering if anyone who has been there ,availed themselves to the free Gas that is advertised on thier website . If so what gas hook up equipment is needed .

Ha ever stayed there a pig to get too, very steep S Bend with a large van and does not take ACSI Card.we were not impressed when visiting it to check for staying at few years back. We have always stopped at Winkle Landthal for Berchtesgaden up to 2012. We prefer now when visiting that area to stay in Austria at Pfarrwerfen.
Details of sites on here Cannot see anything on their website re free gas.

I'm a bit confused on this one, does it mean removing your pigtail, slip on a hose with a few tie wraps to a gas pipe coming out
of the ground

We stayed there last September. Friendly welcome, good restaurant, good sized and varied pitches. I don't recal a difficult access road (with a 7.5m motorhome) and there were many large c'vans on site. Hope this helps.

It would be OK with a MH yes but more difficult with a Caravan. It wasn't as nice as it looks on their website we had a good look around and decided to stay at Winkle-Landthal where we have been 4 times the price is 17 Euro's per night with ACSI Card with charge over 4 KW for electrics. Against 33,45 Euro's per night for standard pitch + Electric.. Very expensive I think.
It is not far to Salzburg and you do not have to go through the Main Border Post to get there where the main delay may be.

Sounds like they loan you a large gas cylinder to place next to your van. They would probably supply a regulator but thats no use to you if you have a bulkhead regulator. You would need a pigtail/adaptor and goodness knows where you would get one after arrival.

Lots of lovely passes to visit the office at Winkle-Landthal will give you a card to use for free transport and discount off entrance to attractions.
The Rossfeld Panoramapassé is worth a visit by car. Entrance near to Ealgles Nest Carpark and the Documentation Centre worth a visit too. Take a trip down to the Konigsee, park car and walk down the shopping street to the See worth taking a trip on an Electric Boat.
Dont forget you will need an Austrian Vignette if visiting Salzburg by Autobahn €8.80 for 10 days. Get at Main a Border Post on A8/A10 or take one of two routes off M'way.
If in Berchtesgaden town go to the Beir Adam Gasthof ,excellent for coffee, light lunch/dinner. Park in the underground Carpark.
Worth a visit is Silent Night Chapel here where the Carol Silent Night was written.
Further afield is the Wolfgangsee in Austria and wonderful boat trip from St Gilgen.
Near to Campsite is Ramsau village wonderful for a walk around and view the very picturesque Church.

Do either of the sites mentioned have public transport into Salzburg or is a taxi feasible?

We spent 5 nights with caravan at Allweglehen in spring 2014 and found it a great site. The access hill is no bother, as you approach the road swings left then right round the tight bend up the short hill and visibility of the whole bend/hill is fine at all times. We saw much coming and going with no problems while we were there - though one or two who were familiar with the site did stop at the bottom of the hill and send the non driver up on foot (it's not far) to check that no-one was about to start down. I've negotiated much worse access roads. The site is family run and they were delightful. The old washblocks look tired but they were warm and had hot water. The new blocks in the centre of the site were just like home, excellent. Pitches are level on terraces with great views over Bertchesgarten which is reachable by bus from just outside the site, as is Salzberg so you don't have to worry about Austrian Motorways. Add to that they served me one of the best steak meals I've ever had (local produce) and as you may gather I'd go back there tomorrow. We paid 19 euro a night. (I don't remember any mention of free gas).

In September 2015 we paid 26 Euro per night including unlimited electricity, hardly excessive. I agree with reynoray, the on-site restaurant and bar is excellent.
