There are a few - but only a few. If you Google Farm Camping Italy you will find a list of 19  -  across the whole country. If you try Agricamping you will find a few more, but some of them only for small tents. Italy is well worth visiting, but I think you have to adapt to their style of camping rather than looking for the sort of campsites found in UK and France. It is different ! Enjoy your planning.

The nearest equivalents to our CLs in Italy are farms that offer camping. Look at Agricamping.it on the web. If you're a motorhomer you can use a sosta (the equivalent of the German Stellplatz). If your holiday is in the spring most campsites in Italy will
be quiet in the spring if its quiet sites you're looking for.

In general Italy is poorly served by camp sites except in the very popular areas. There are some acsii sites of course but, again, not that many. As Dave N. says above, Spring should be quiet but always best to avoid German school holidays particularly to
the North which is a short day trip for many Germans.

We have been to Italy several times. Our last two trips have been recorded here and here which might give you a few pointers. Personally I would forget about CL sites and concentrate on sites near to where you want to visit. The Caravan Club "Touring Europe" guide has about 60 pages of Italian campsites (approx 6/8 sites a page) with comment submitted by members. Alternatively if you come up with a list of places you want to visit, list them here, and I am sure people will chip in with suggestions. Italy is a wonderful country to visit.

We have been to Italy a few times in the last 13 years you may find some info on here if you have any questions please ask will e pleased to help.  I would do like David K says go for sites near to where yo want to visit. My recommendation is to buy and ACSI Camping Card by ordering in Novmber 2016.  In the meantime go to the ACSI Camping Card website and have a look you can see all sites for 2016 and they only vary a little year by year.

Don't know which part of Italy you are planning to visit but we are off there in a few weeks.  Nothing booked will follow the weather.  Bear in mind it will take you 3 days to get to North Italy; therefore a week there and back.  If you have time include
the Gargano peninsular in your trip but it's a long way down.  We plan to spend some time in Austria then Tuscany and Umbria.  France is not really on the direct route to Italy and CL type sites do not really exist there, Municipals are the nearest equivalent
but many only open at peak holoday times so you will need to check, never heard of them in Italy where the sites tend to be large with smallish pitches.  As mentioned, join ACSI!

OP - are you in a motorhome or caravan? If the former, you can stay on "sostas" - like the French aires, motorhomes only, although the odd one or two does accept caravans.

We are off to Italy in two weeks. We have made a rough plan of the trip down and we are heading straight to Venice. As comeyras  says, get yourself an ACSI book / membership card (I also buy camping cheques in € from the French site). We have also bought
a couple of Swiss Vignettes (we are going to Italy twice this year) in € again - play around to get the best deal. Generally, we have not come across CL type locations even with ACSI but with them, the prices are so reasonable you might as well enjoy the sites
with all mod cons. I do accept that you may be looking for a quiet life but generally, as already said, it's not busy in the Spring. Do check out camping Cheques ; we find that having paid for a pitch or 10 before we leave reassuring AND, bought in € cost
us £14 a night depending on exchange rate.

Maybe we'll bump into each other although I'm leaving for Italy in the first week in May. The plan is to get to Venice as a first stop by the 7th before cutting back to Liguria and thence to Tuscany. The furthest point south will be Rome, arriving there on the 24th, after which it's back up the Adriatic coast. The reason for this zig-zagging is not to get to Rome too early, because I want to co-ordinate my arrival with that of my daughter who is flying there to visit friends.

Write your comments here...Are you copying our rough intinerary? We are heading for Venice then bumping on down the coast over to Rome and then steaming home. Alas, I doubt we will meet given we will home on 14 May but have a wonderful trip as I am sure
    you will.
