Overseas ferry booking
We phoned in on Tuesday to make a booking and agreed to the dates, time etc. We were told that an email woudl be sent to confirm the booking.
On not receiving the email by this morning, I phoned to be told that there was an issue with the system and it would take a few days to sort out.
IMHO this is rather unacceptable as a problem like thsi shoudl be resolved within 24 hours. Anyone else with a similar problem?

Yes me! On line booking made yesterday. Received an email acknowledging booking giving a reference number and stating that I will receive a confirmatory email 'shortly'. Not received so called CC today and got same response as Surfer. Not too excited
about it as the person I spoke to said my booking was confirmed but they could not send the email.0 -
Could they not put it in the post, there was a world before email
Agreed. With no printer here I always have the confirmation sent to me by post - to show the check in staff at the ferry port.

All you need is the booking Ref, or you could save it to a smart phone or tablet and just show them at check in, works for flights too
On P and O, and DFDS, who obviously employ number plate recognition, we've found that you don't even need the booking reference. You just drive in, and immediately they ask 'Mr ValDa on the 10.50?'
Sometimes we book on the way to the ferry and never quite get organised enough to write down the details - just remembering the time.
I don't know if that works on the longer crossings, though!

You still need the email first which is what my post was about. I received the email late yesterday afternoon. If there is an issue with the mail system they could always post the booking or a phone call to say they have an issue.

...Did they not give you a referance number? When I do the ferry bookings, they have always gìven me a CC ref. and the ferry companies ref. I agree its nice to have it in writting but actually needed these days.

If you are told that an email is going to be sent, why bother with asking for a reference number? However as it has now been resolved hopefully I am happy except that at the very least they could have notified people via an announcement on the website that
there was an issue.0 -
