European border crossing delays

We crossed from France to Spain on the A9 Perpignan route on 28 February about 11am. There were no delays but the opposite carriageway into France had a queue several miles long.  We assume this the breakdown of the Schengen Agreement but also perhaps the
Paris attacks.

It would be useful if members crossing borders could report delays to allow others to take avoiding action.

We plan to cross at 2am on the way back.

Crossing on Sunday means that most lorries are not running as they are mostly banned on French autoroutes on Sunday.I believe that transport of perishable goods is exempted. It was very quiet when we came back that way on a Sunday last June so ,even with
checks in place, it may minimise your delay to try Sunday morning.

Due to the uncertainty of Border Procedures I think this thread should be made a "Sticky" I for one will be keeping tabs on developments, and thanks Daveking for bringing it to the Forums attention

I would agree with Admiral!  Whilst we were away the week before last apparently the Belgian's reintroduced border controls on, the autoroute A16 between France and Belgium, leading to long delays.  This was a temporary thing and related to migrant activity in Calais, but it would have been useful for those travelling in that direction.

Things change from day to day, so anyone crossing national borders could usefully post their experiences during this year.

We came back through Calais yesterday (3rd March 2016) and there were loads of police vans and other security companies parked along the sides of the route out of the port, and along the approach roads, with the slip road nearest 'the jungle' being closed to traffic, but there was no one on the verges, no signs of young men wandering along, and all the 'temporary dwellings under the autoroute bridges had disappeared.

we go Easter from northern Germany to visite our English part of the family. Now we have a look to different routes, so that we dont miss he booked ferry.

one bordercrossing D/F near Saarbrücken ?

the shortest way D/B near Cologne and B/F  at the coastline ?

or D/NL near Rheine via NL and B to Calais...

travelling in those days becomes an other kind of adventure...
