Britannia Rescue

I've always used Red Pennant and on the two occasions I've used them I've had no complaints. However I have an opportunity of using Britannia Rescue, both for UK and Europe. This would save me over £500 this year. I know the cover is not exactly the same
and I would have to arrange health cover, £124 annual w/wide, so my only concern is I have no feedback on previous users.

Has anybody any first hand experience, especially regarding Overseas? (I know the pitfalls of the cover as I have studied their policy.)

Agree you will need your choice of travel insurance (including health) which will cover you for all other holidays, unlike RP?.

I would like to ask what "pitfalls" you have noted in the Brittania policy . I've used them before but so far, thankfully, never had to call anyone out abroad.

Hi Doug. There are limits on length of caravan and the 'van isn't covered when detached from the car and a few other minor differences mostly in amount of compensation etc. However, I intend to have a few weeks away in the van touring the south coast before
catching the ferry and this must be added to RP, even though I would use Mayday and NHS etc.plus if I returned home for just 1 night before then driving back down south it wouldn't be added to RP. Stupid rule.

I had a discussion by phone and e-mail with Brittania and, regarding the "being away from site with the car" and some other matters the answer seems to be "we won't leave you stranded" They all seem to write the documents badly IMHO as they don't realise
what we are really concerned about.

I didn't see any major length restrictions unless your van is particularly long unlike Green Flag (unless they have changed recently)?

Whilst I was confident to use Brittania for a couple of years  and would consider again, we now use Safeguard who offer CARAVAN based breakdown (via AA) as a bolt on to their insurance as a package. This covers the car too and again, have had assurances
that we would be covered in the event of being away from the van.

You do need to be confident and others have suggested ADAC etc but all policies need a very close inspection of the tiny print and verbal or written evidence of any specifics you want to be sure of.

I can send details of full cover by ADAC.  We have had it for 7 years now used 3 times twice for Car once for Caravan 3 different countries with excellent service.

Thanks Dianne but I've had a copy of ADAC's T&c as my brother uses them and he lives in France! Looking to see people's actual experience of B. R. We may well use ADAC but this will in effect be duplicating our cover and I can use the money elsewhere.

Have been with Britannia for years and had no issues when I needed their services. They used a local garage who arrived promptly. I now use them as part of the benefits through our Nationwide Current Account Flex Plus.

As a company associated with a mutual BS, Liverpool Victoria Assurance and as chosen agents for the CSMA you are on safe ground using them.

We too are with Britannia Rescue, first time since they moved from the CSMA to LV. We queried whether the breakdown service covered the caravan after reading the policy details which in our opinion were a little contradictory. The initial respondpse was
that the caravan was not covered, but when the anomalies We're pointed out, they confirmd in writing that the caravan in indeed covered when connected to the Car.

I think it's this "connected to the car" thing that really spooks us and whilst I had confirmation that implied the cover was for  car and caravan whilst on a trip touring (so you could be away for the day, leaving the caravan on site) following serious
breakdown both the car and van would be recovered (you still need to check yourself, the more people that do it may make them clarify these aspects?) N.B. for any company, recovery to UK is their choice not yours and is always a last resort?

I just wish they'd ALL make this (and other) aspects clearer so we don't have to rely on these verbal assurances that everything will be fine.
