Have a look at the
ACSI Card website - an easy way of looking at lots of sites without lots of searches.  Just check the opening dates, and then if there are any you like the look of buy yourselves an ACSI Card and you may save a fair amount.

Sites we have used and would recommend:

El Helguero:  About 40 minutes west of Santander in a little village about 5 miles inland.  Excellent site and facilities.  Handy for visits to Santillana, a very old village, Comillas for its
harbour and modernista buildings and San Vicente, a lively resort with the best ice cream shop in Europe. It is  handy for a day trip up into the mountains (Eastern Picos) should you wish. There is also a nice looking sight at Santillana which has had mixed
reviews.

Ribadesella, about half way between Santander and Gijon.  A lovely little fishing port at the mouth of the Sella river, with long sandy beaches.  The site is a mile or so inland set on
an inland facing hill with magnificent views of the Picos on a clear day.  Facilities are good.  Pitches on the lower end easy and spacious.  Pitches on the terraces have the best views but access is not easy. There are canoe trips down the river and a huge
cave system.

West of Gijon is Luarca, another lovely old port, with
Camping Los Cantiles placed on a clifftop overlooking the town. The site is very attractive and friendly. The facilities are clean although a bit dated (they might have been upgraded since we were there in 2009).

With five weeks I would be tempted to do a round trip.  Use those three sites, then go south over the mountains to Tordesillas and use that as a base to see some of the Castile castles, then on to Burgos for a few days, then back north to Bilbao and see
a bit of the Basque country proper.  Have a look at two of our blogs, "round Europe with a caravan" the last few entries, then "back
