Site in Florence

Can anyone suggest a site in or near Florence which is on a public transport route, either train or bus, for journeys into the city.

The last time we were there we found that parking in the city is expensive and the risk of violating one of the residents only zones appears to be quite high.

We do not require a site that is "all singing and dancing", just simple, clean and with pitches large enough for a 7.2 metre caravan would be quite sufficient.  I have the Acsi and Caravan Cheques books but no site listed in them appears to be suitable.

Any ideas would be much appreciated.

You could always drive to a local station and get the train in?  We're stopping at Camping Belsito (just inland from Montecatini Terme) this summer.  We've not used the site before but it looks good - I've managed to secure us a pitch with its own private
    toilet and washroom!!

The Caravan Club Touing Europe guide gives four campsite within reasonable distance of Florence. Over 20 years ago we stayed at Camping  Michelangelo which is within walking distance of the centre of the City and has amazing views out over Florence. However
it might be difficult for a  larger van.

camping internationale is a shortish walk to a bus route in to the city. When we were there in 2010 it was vey noisy due to works on the autostrada nearby - diggers and stuff moving all night! Best positions are over the hill away from the "hum" of the autostrada.

Many thanks folks for the suggestions, I think that before we choose, I will need to do a bit more investigation.

David, I looked at camping Michaelangelo and thought that the pitches looked a bit tight for our unit.  I know that many Italian pitches are small but these (as seen on the web site) appeared to be very much so.  Also one review that I read mentioned a steep
access road which also concerned me.

I think that we may have to stay quite a way out in the countryside somewhere and journey into the city by train. It appears that there isn't anywhere close to the city with reasonable 'bus links.

Have checked ACSI and Campsite La Chiocciola is Site No 2997 in 2016 Book,  I am sure you would like it Michael.  When are you off to Italy.  We are off to Austria/Germany in mid April will miss Jodl but we are spending a week with the Thalers in their new
home in the Mountains without the caravan leaving it on site near to Salzburg.

    Hi.

We stayed at Camping Norcenni Girasole Club last year. Big site with all the bells and whistles. Not Asci though can book through the club or private. They have mini bus to the local village and day trips on coaches to Florance. Piza Lucca and Siena plus
wine and culture trips. Nice clean and helpfull but a bit pricey. Our van is 7.8meters and no bother.

Many thanks Dianne you know what we like, something similar  to Jodl.  Just a bit concerned about the link to Florence.

Tigi, If Il Poggetto has a 'bus link of 40 minutes to Florence then that might be a strong possibility.  We intend to be there at the end of May for 6 nights, hopefully we will be able to visit Sienna too.

    Many thanks everyone
