Toulouse
Pure coincidence, we intend to visit in May.
At luchtime an ex pat who has lived in the city (Town?) for 20 years said on TV what a shame it was that as soon as the locals realise she is English they metaphorically turn away.
I'll have to make sure my German is fluent

We have just the opposite in our 'home village' here in the Aude. We arrived back on Monday evening, and were greeted as long lost friends, even being invited to the funeral of the lovely old chap who used to sit on the bench at the bottom of 'our hill'.
The people in this village are extremely friendly, the Deputy Mayor called this morning to welcome us back, and I've just been shown around a 'motorhome' which is being converted, as the owner knows we own a caravan and wanted some advice about building a 'fixed bed'! Marcel who runs the local Dechetterie (rubbish recycling place) greeted us by first name when we took yet more loads of debris from the house!
Perhaps it's city dwellers that your ex-pat is talking about, but it's certainly very different here.
PS And even better than that, it's 19 degrees here, blue skies and sunny!

Nor is that our experience either in the 6 years we lived near St Chinion nor when we go back visiting. We have always found the French welcoming and friendly. I realise it was second hand, but I don't think comments such as in the original posting are
helpful.0 -
In our experience we have found the vast majority of French people very welcoming, but not all I am afraid to say, so you cannot simply expect a welcome everywhere all of the time. They are just like other nationalities, including us Brits, there are many good ones and a small minority not so good.
Next time we are passing your way Val I shall email you to see if you are there and anywhere nearby to where we shall be. Glad to hear you are enjoying life, -1C here at night and only 3/4 in the day! Regards, Roy

We live in France and we have found the French very friendly and welcoming with one or two very minor exceptions. As Roy and Sharon have said above. The French are just the same as any other nationality and you get friendly, not so friendly and occasionally
downright rude individuals but I would not let any of that put you off visiting this beautiful and varied country.0 -

You would be more than welcome to drop in - and there is parking for motorhomes at the bottom of the village, three differrent public WC's (immaculate), free WiFi at the Mairie and in the gardens, and if you need EHU then our friends will oblige! Don't come
before April though as we're only here for a few more days and then on our way back home again.0 -
Not sure when Val but be sure when we do I shall make early contact. Have s safe journey back. Regards Roy
