Caravan registration in Spain

I have a property in Spain where I can store my Bailey Pegasus 514 and wish to spend more time caravanning in Europe without having to regularly drag across the water. I do have a Spanish registered towcar. Any information on registering the caravan in Spain
would be appreciated.

My property is in Estepona, Malaga

Not certain but because it is a UK vehicle then I suspect you may have to go through the Spanish
    matriculación
process just like you would have to do with registering a non-Spanish registered car there, even though a caravan is not registered in the UK. I think the process could be reasonably straight forward, if
beaurocratic, and may mean various trips to the Traffic Office nearest to Estepona and then the equivalent of a MOT station to do the dictated checks. Hope this helps a little. Regards, Roy

I have just Googled "do you have to register a caravan in Spain" and it seems you have to if you live there and have a Spanish registered car

Friends of ours who caravan and have moved to Spain found it was such a prolonged and complicated process, they sold their UK van and bought one which was Spanish registered already to save the hassle.  THIS website might offer some insight.

The Spanish system looks similar to the French one.  Although I had read that it was nigh impossible to register a UK caravan in France which was not built to the then EU spec and not sold in France, hence no homogenisation certificate,  I persevered.  There
was a useful article in the Club Mag about this (2002).  First I had to have it checked to see that it met the French specs. This first check was mainly gas and elec took 30 mins and consisted mainly of a friendly discussion with the official about sub aqua
in UK!  Then I had to talke it to a testing station for the road worthiness check - a bit like an MOT.  The tester was only concerned that the VIN number was on the chasis and that he did not get his jeans and white shirt dirty.  The fact that the door was
on UK side and that the red fog light was on the inside did not bother him.   Cost so far 150 euros  Then to get the Carte Gris (Registration Doc); this was where I nearly came unstuck as the lady wanted to see the UK registration doc!  The CRIS certificate
seemed to suffice.  Cost, I think 100 euros.  Then to Supermarket to get plates.  So, the message I am trying to give is give it a go!

Thanks for that Comeyras - we're looking at the possibility - so that we can keep a car down here, and still tow our caravan!  I'm going to bookmark this post, so that I can refer to it when we're nearer to making a decision!

Pleasure Val.  Just  Google 'Registering a caravan in France' and it's all there.  Cost now seems to be higher than I remembered - 250 for Veritas (Gas etc) check and 80 for second check!
