Campingaz in winter abroad

We have just returned from our first winter touring trip to Spain and Portugal.  I learnt that Campingaz refills are much cheaper in Portugal than here (£10 versus £30 at a large well know chain) and that it does not work at all well at low single digit
temperatures. 

I normally use propane in my campervan and considered using Spanish propane, but the commonly available cylinders were too large for my gas locker. Campingaz seemed the next best solution, but let us down on a couple of cold nights.  I looked at someone
else's refillable cylinders, but again think they would be too large for the limited space in my Renault Master conversion.  How do other people solve this problem?

    campingaz is butane, which doesn't work very well in winter!   check round on sizes of propane suppliers' containers, eg BB's example

    Although you have to purchase the Gaslow cylinder and associated filler connection it is very flexible if you travel throughout Europe. Different adaptors are needed for some countries. I bought an 11kg cylinder for my caravan 5 years ago and have filled
    up at garages throughout Europe. Some countries are more sparse with outlets than others but with the internet they can easily be found on your travels.

    Thank you for the replies.  A refillable system does seem to be the best solution.
