Diesel in France
I have just been reading about various technical hitches folk have had when paying for fuel in French supermarkets. It reminded me of my experiences of using supermarket diesel in France. After trying diesel from all the main supermarket suppliers I now
use only Total diesel when in France. I do so because I find that I consistently achieve an extra 6 m.pg. when using Total when compared to the supermarket diesel. Furthermore I have found that, if you find a Total station near a supermarket then the price
at the pum is often identical or very close to it. I appreciate that this may be peculiar and distinct to my car which is a Nissan Qashqai 4X4 automatic.

I also not longer use supermarket diesel in France. Our previous car (Freelander) ran like a bag of nails after a couple of supermarket fills in 2014 but, as you say, returned to normal after a fill of Total. I no-longer use supermarket fuel in this country
either but previous threads have shown that to be a highly controversial subject.0 -
As above, I never use supermarket fuel, petrol or diesel. However, Asda have just opened a self service only station near here with prices well below £1 per litre. Surprise surprise, the local BP station immedietely knocked nearly 10p per litre off to match
Asda. Job done. Thanks Asda.0 -
I only use Shell at home in the UK and would agree that the supermarket stuff gets the car running like a bag of nails.
We don't have any choice here in East Lancs. There are no Independent petrol stations left, have to fill up at the supermarket. Haven't noticed any problems though, thankfully. We drive a 2014 Evoque.

I would agree that where you buy the diesel in UK upsets my X-Trail which only seems to go well on Shell. I've tried supermarket diesel and the car won't pull properly, the difference is very apparrent, so yes I appreciate the comments about Total as I have
had the same problem with French supermarket diesel.0 -
When at homeI only ever put BP diesel in our motorhome I wouldn't put supermarket fuel in it unless it was an emergency but last year we drove all the way up through France in it and did use French supermarket fuel a few times without incident.

I also found that Total diesel in france gave a better MPG than supermarket but no difference in power output that I notied. In the UK I generally use ASDA as its the cheapest and for all diesel they are refined to a standard and I have not noticed any
difference in power output either.0 -
I wonder wich part of East Lancashire. I have just looked at the Shell Web site and there seem to be a good many Shell stations. I am driving North through Lancs. next month and I have located Shell fill up points.
Newchurch in Pendle.
Enjoy your trip up North!

Write your comments here...There is a Shell station 4.3 miles from you according to the Shell web site. And thanks, I will enjoy our trip to Scotalnd.

Oh, dear, I must be oblivious to what's round the corner! As with everything else, I'll blame it on old age. Anyway, sorry for my mistake.
Have a great trip to Scotland, it can be absolutely stunning at this time of the year.
