Storage Cote d'Azur/ Leaving your Caravan on site!
I appreciate that this is somewhat unlikely but it is possible that we might need to leave our caravan and maybe our car in the south of France this summer and fly home. Does anyone know of a storage facility within 50 miles or so from Nice? Or has anyone left there van, car etc on a campsite for a period and what was their experience of doing this?

We did it once when we had to fly back from the south of France because of an emergency at home - explained the problem to the site owner who said leave the caravan here (though that site is now closed), left the car in an airport multi storey, and got the last two seats on a flight. I think it was about two or three weeks before we could go back.
We discovered later that Club 5Cs insurance policy did not cover the caravan while it was left behind, so beware of that.

Family emergencies must sadly happen to those who are away for longish periods, so would appreciate hearing how they coped with the practicalities of abandoning your caravan etc. In this instance we are able to plan for that man's law that will get us settled
in the south of France and call us back! Will certainly look into insurance implications.0 -
You can try any of the names in the attached link - who all offer 'gardiennage de caravanes'.
I hope you don't need to use them.

Write your comments here...have scanned through out 5c's policy and can't find anything referring to leaving the van on site abroad whilst returning home in an emergency. This is developing into a real possibility for us, would really appreciate hearing
from anyone who has been in a similar situation.0 -
no experience of an emergency, per se, but the french folk on the next pitch to us last year at La Croix Valmer came and went, sometimes leaving their van in site for a week or two before returning.
i reckon, if you were to have a word with the site owners and explained that 'something might happen' (i assume this is ypur concern?.....) and ypu might be called back for a bit, you could come to some arrangement for leaving the car and van on site, or
even on the pitch...for a nominal fee....good luck...

Thanks BoleroBoy,coincidentally we will actually be at La Croix Valmer for the greater part of our trip and do feel that our outfit would be quite safe there. I guess we're just trying to have a plan in place for if the worst should happen. Red Pennant won't
cover us because it's a known possibility so we're basically on our own with this one!0 -
Not sure if this will be helpful. We had the same problem with CC insurance and are now insured with C&CC. They could change storage location to the site in Holland and therefore insured when we go home In between our stay in Holland. Maybe worth talking
to your insurance if they can do the same.0 -
We are actually planning to fly back from Spain during a 3 month trip to Spain this winter. Not because of emergency, but amongst other reasons to simplify medical/prescription/garden maintenance/house insurance matters. As long as one is happy to continue paying the normal site fees whilst away, and are happy with the security, I cannot see any reason why it should be a problem?? Very interested though if anyone has a contradicting view?
Edit: I note the comments regarding 'van insurance.
