Hi, I understand the Dordogne is popular especially with the Brits.  Can anyone recommend a campsite please or a nice part to head for.  We are looking to
stay for about 10 days in June this year.  Thanks.

The Dordogne is equally popular with the French, the Dutch, the Germans.................  It's a very picturesque part of the country, with lovely river valley, Chateaux and villages.

What sort of sites do you like?  Do you have preferences as to situation (ie riverside, village nearby, etc).  Have a quick look at the ACSI Card website where you can see a lot of sites on one website, and see if there is anything which interests you, but
do come back as let us know what sort of site you're looking for and some of us may be able to come up with suggestions.

One site which we really like and have stayed at for a number of years is
    La Cabane at Vezac
.  It's by the river and just a short walk away from where you can hire a canoe; it's good fun hiring one for a day, you either set off from there and get picked up at the other end, or you get taken to a starting point and make your way
    back, in your own time.

The site is not an all-singing, all-dancing site, and quite cheap, about €13 or €14.50 depending on what amperage you want from your EHU.  There is a pool, but not a fancy one with slides, it is just that, a pool.  We were there for about 4 days last June
again, very few people there then, so no need to book.  Pitches are enormous, you're very close to Beynac, walking distance along the river, and also within driving distance from Sarlat which is a very popular town with a lovely market on Wednesdays.

But, there are many more other areas which are also attractive, it's just that we like quiet sites and this fits the bill (for us anyway!).

We only live 'down the road' from the Dordogne and some friends of ours regularly go
HERE.   They love it and say its one of the best sites they have ever been to whatever time of year you choose to go.

Le Paradis (in Oldgirl and Staffy's thread, above) was the first French campsite we ever stayed on in 1981.  We had a lovely welcome from the owners, and I understand it's their son and his family who now run the site.

Le Paradis also takes the ACSI card between the following dates:  : 26/03 - 09/07 and again from 01/09 - 20/10 so in June a pitch, two adults, car and caravan, awning, and electricity will cost you just 19 euros (£14.67 at today's exchange rate) per
    night

Or Moulin de la Pique, or les Valades, or Maisonneuve, or Le Capeyrou, or Domaine de Mathevies, or Le Perpetuum, or Port de Limeuil, or Bel Ombrage...... Are there actually any poor sites in that part of the Dordogne?

On the river, about 4 miles from Sarlat http://www.soleilplage.fr/ we love this area so much we are here for 38 nights May27 to July 3 2016. Started visiting the Dordogne from 1980 and always fine some thing new to
see. The other good site is http://www.le-paradis.fr/

you will not be disapointed with these two

    Regards Bob

Another vote for Le Capeyou, nice site not all singing and dancing but with a nice small bar and food, also within a sort walk into Beynac where there's a few restaurants and the chateau up on the hill if you have the legs for it. We managed to book a pitch
overlooking the river, the size of pitch was very generous with loads of room for 'van, awning and car. Would go again if in area, if that's worth anything,

For anyone who wants the situation of Soleil Plage, but not the prices, the site immediately next door is

    La Bouysse de Caudon
, and takes the ACSI Card until the 3rd July and again after the 25th August.  That's just 15 euros per night for pitch, two adult, car and caravan, awning, and electricity, and even better they offer 14 nights for the price of 12.

It scores 8.5 on the ACSI Card website.
