Pets in Europe

Hi

we are doing a six month tour of Europe taking our two pets with us, we are with acis and looking through the campsites most take pets, but only in low season, any sensible ideas or recomadations during high season!

    It would be extremely rare for any campsite in Europe not take pets in high season, but they may have a limit on the number of them and they may well charge a small sum for each one.

    There are only a few campsites in France which don't take pets in high season - and they're probably not the sort of sites you would choose anyway.  I'm not sure what policies sites in other countries have, as we've only taken our cat to France.

    Outside the period when the ACSI Card is accepted on sites you can still stay on those sites, but you'll pay the full campsite rate, and that will include an extra payment for your pets.

    Our friends have a dog, and there was a site in Kaysersberg which doesn't accept dogs in July and August, ie peak season.  That's the only site I've heard them mention.

    Do be careful with some sites that charge eye-watering amounts for pets, especially in high season. I guess some do this in an attempt to discourage pets and often provide little in return. It's worth checking before you commit yourself to a specific site.

    Having said that, France is generally very dog friendly and when eating in a restaurants the first thing to arrive has often been a dish of water for our dog.

    I agree with most of what has been written on here.  Most sites in France will take pets, although some will restrict to one only.  There is often a charge.  Trevor.... you do not tell us what pets you have.  Many sites say 'dogs' so perhaps it would be
    a good idea to check with the key sites you intend using?

    Presuming your pets are dogs, if you are visiting Spain, it is not uncommon for some of the larger sites to ban dogs during July/August.  Some sites also have restrictions on the size of dog - up to 15kg is one we have come across.  Also, of course, the
    majority sites do not accept "dangerous" breeds.
